It's no secret I didnt want him as our coach in the first place. I didn't like the hire when it happened.

Dale Watts: Brookhaven Academy. 9 State Championships.
ETA: unlike rick, he can beat a zone with his Red DeSoto offense.

Recognized far and wide for his fiery courtside demeanor, Watts often catches the attention of opposing fans, coaches and players. His own players are used to his emotional outbursts because he coaches hard in practice, too. Off the court, he's a soft-spoken gentleman who will spend hours talking basketball, horses, family and the Bible. He cares deeply about his family and his players. "I really enjoy coaching and working with the kids," said Watts. "Some coaches enjoy the games more than the practice routine. But I enjoy the games and the practices.

I'm hoping and praying we can convince Shaka to give us a chance.

The head of VCU was on CNBC this morning, and he was discussing the financial impact of the team making the Final Four last year. Proceeds from apparel sales went from $59K in 2010 to $1.4M in 2011. Athletic fund donations were up over 300%. General fund donations were up 40%. Shaka is worth really big bucks to VCU, and it didn't sound like the guy was willing to give him up.

Smart, a 34-year-old who took VCU to the Final Four last year. But Smart might be a tough get for the Bulldogs.
One coach who's not: Sean Woods, Mississippi Valley State's fourth-year, 41-year-old coach and a guy both national experts mentioned.
Woods led Valley to the NCAA Tournament after the Delta Devils won 20 of 21 games against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams this year.
Contacted on Thursday, Woods didn't play coy.
"I would love to be the next head coach at Mississippi State," he said. "I would definitely bring excitement, a brand of basketball a lot of people like to see and watch."
Another top name is Steve Prohm, 37, whose Murray State Racers are 31-1 after Thursday's NCAA win.
Then there's the older guys - Marshall of Wichita State, Middle Tennessee State's Kermit Davis, a former State player, and Southern Miss' Larry Eustachy. I would not take any of these.....
Assistant Robert Kirby, a longtime former State assistant now at Georgetown.
Stans has a winning record against all SERC schools except 3. Take away Ky and that only leaves 2 teams he did not have winning records against.........

PASS
SWAC coaches don't get big time SEC jobs. The collapse his team had vs Western Kentucky showed me all I needed to see on him.

From the NEMS Daily Journal
Sounds like Shaka to me
quote:
Stricklin, who took over as AD nearly two years ago, said he'll seek input from within the athletic department, and he said MSU might use a search firm.
Four key characteristics
As for what kind of coach he's seeking, Stricklin reiterated the four characteristics he cited on Tuesday when new women's coach Vic Schaefer was introduced: charisma, competitiveness, intelligence and a strong work ethic.
