Not triggered. Just don't really get the point of the topic. Doesn't every SEC team schedule cupcakes ?

2017 Non Conf.

Bama
Fresno St
Colorado St
Mercer

Aub

Ga Southen
Mercer
LA Monroe

Ark
FLA A&M
New Mex. St
Coastal Carolina

LSU
Chattanooga
Syracuse
Troy

Ole Miss
South Alabama
UT Martin
UL Lafayette (David Saunders Bowl)

State really isn't any different as far as any other SEC team as far as scheduling goes.

The team didn't tank, just the defense. The offense proved they didn't tank in the iron bowl when Sammi Coates made Eddie Jackson his bitch.

come on now. Yes teams schedule cupcakes, but they usually schedule at least one power team and sometimes a mediocre power team. State does not

State's scheduling is fairly different than each of those programs listed, albeit they each do have pretty weak 2017 OOC schedules. I did notice you conspicuously left stronger, scheduled OOC opponents off that list though. Isn't Bama opening against FSU? When was the last time State scheduled a (likely, considering AD's can't predict the future) ranked and/or major P5 OOC game though? Bama (SCw), Auburn (Clempson), LSU (Wiskey), Arkansas (TCU), and Ole Miss (F$U) each played one literally just last season. Mullen is 5-31 against ranked FBS opponents, so it's best served for State's program to minimize games against powerful OOC teams because they'll usually have to play at least 2-3 ranked teams in conference. Would State fans rather schedule Texas, USCw, FSU, Wisconsin, etc., or would they rather have a better bowl game but have to see UMass, BYU, La. Tech, Charleston Southern, etc.?

People that schedule those powerhouse games that also play in the SEC are basically idiots, outside of Alabama. There is nothing to gain. Playing in the SEC is plenty good enough for your SOS (and a lot of the SEC teams play a rival outside the SEC every year that is also very good). With the new rule that you have to schedule a P5 team every year OOC, the matchups will automatically get better. As a fan, I love to see the big time OOC matchups, but if your team loses and you were hoping for a big year, your season is done before it even starts. It's a huge risk for nearly nothing in return.

I left off each teams P5 non conference game (which is a required rule now). State's P5 opponent is BYU, as is LSU's. The last time State played a ranked OOC opponent was in 2013 when we opened the season with OK State in Houston.

Like I said, Vandy and MSU are content to crawl into a bowl game by ducking as much competition as possible. And I am a Vandy season ticket holder so don't beat me up Commodores.

Oklahoma State in 2013 (Texas Kickoff game) - ranked #13 in week 1 and #13 at the end of the regular season. Strong opponent.

It has nothing to do with crawling to a bowl game. You can be a really good team and only win 9 games instead of 10 and miss out on a group of 6 bowl because you scheduled like an idiot.

Not if you are scheduling p5 teams that are similar to Vandy.

1.) Auburn still should have been in that game and it was ridiculous that they were left out. With 4 teams now getting into the playoffs that would never happen again.

2.) Vandy is better than UT Chat, but I get your point

3.) Sounds like common sense.

Isn't BYU an independent because no P5 conference will extend the invite? Granted, their student conduct policy is pretty fricked up, but it's still basically a Mountain West school y'all are playing

ETA: typo

BYU and the service schools were added to the list of acceptable opponents to qualify for the p5 requirement by the SEC.

They were left out of the game because of the ooc games.

If it came down to similar records and different ooc games, you bet it will happen again.

okay, but that has nothing to do with what I stated.

yes for a sub par team that wants to make it seem like they are accomplishing something, sure. Like I stated in the beginning, state has accepted their role and are playing into it. However, for above par teams, it wont and doesnt work.

An undefeated SEC West team will never get left out of a 4 team playoff. They should not have been left out of the 2 team playoff, but there is zero chance of that happening with a 4 team playoff and to suggest otherwise is just crazy.

They also won't play athletic events of any kind on Sundays. Makes it pretty tough on a conference scheduling office.

Also, BYU has a better football history than Ole Miss's P5 opponent Cal. As a matter of fact Vegas has the O/U for BYU wins at 10 this season.
