Do you know when the gospels were written btw?

oh, so what... earlier we were cool, but i talk about Jesus and like... i'm a stupid guy?

of course they were written way after the events took place. but they were gathered works over time and put together at the council of whatever it was called. and what's more, is that they ALL reflected eachother. a miracle in and of itself.

btw, i have NO claim to being any sort of scholar. just throwing that out there. i know enough to get myself into this debate confidently and then fall on my face when it comes to cornering a fine print point. but i do know all i need to know that Jesus died for me... and that the key in life is to learn how to die to ourselves and what we want... and give back the life He gave us. and hopefully, further His kingdom that is here now.

You see, this is why religion is just one of those things that you don't talk about.

religion i could agree with you on. faith is crucial to talk about. conflict happens in life. some conflicts are worth the effort. this one is worth the effort.

*edit*

but some don't come to rationally talk.. they don't care to listen, they care to be heard. so, honestly, most of the time you might be right ;)

gotta know when you're actually TALKING to someone.

Like my Sunday school teacher taught me he just was adn I suppose that has always been good enough for me, but my honest intent(although not directed at me) was to saythat my belief is that there is a competing theory not to make anyone believe in my God.

Wha? The Gospels straight contradict each other. Each writer was speaking to a specific audience. Look at Mark's version of the crucifixion and Luke's and tell me they reflect each other.

Jesus was crucified in both versions.

without knowing the differences themselves, all i can immediately deduce is that human languages hardly come close to being able to articulate their thoughts perfectly... and not only that, but some humans have a much better short/long term memories than others. it's not like they were writing it AS they saw it or heard about it. details get messed up quickly.

go watch a movie with your woman. go home and don't talk about it. then have both of you describe, in writing, one particular scene in it and see how different they sound.

Jesus on the cross is very different. In Mark he says one thing. "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me." In Luke, he's forgiving criminals, promising their place in heaven. The difference is huge. We just like to melt them into one, it hides the contradictions better.

the Pope got up from watching Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" in which Jesus said both things on the cross. both the speaking to the thief and saying "Father why have you forsaken me."

the Pope's comments about the movie were something like this.... "It is (the movie) as it was (the events that transpired)."

*edit*

so, what's so awful about Him having said both things upon the cross?

So either the Gospel writers got it wrong, or the Pope did.

Nothing. I'm pointing out how the two gospels contradict each other.
