since the dawn of man. men have had some odd feeling deep down that a higher power existed. some praised the sun. some sing and dance in rituals. some believe in mother earth. some praise Jesus as the Messiah. some believe in multiple gods

are you trying to prove my point for me?

but unlike animals, human beings have always felt the need to drop on their knees and thank the stars for the good in their life. i think it's quite more than to "sleep well at night."

How do you know this? Proof?

Uh, never said that. I said anecdotes are used as evidence for God.

Jesus talked in parables almost always.. because truth has to be given to human beings in such a way that they don't implode for all i know. but we must have a way to relate to the truth before we can understand it.

yes, they absolutely have. should i link you to websites that show civilizations since ALWAYS ago that pray to a higher power? you think it's just a recent phenomenon?

We want to know why we're here. Simply having everyone believe something doesn't make it so though. I'll point you to flat earth to prove that. I figure the need for religion is a symptom of our need to be social, not something that proves anything besides we like to gather in groups of people who believe the same stuff a we do.

Religion has always been a way of explaining the unexplainable.

Many scientists propagated this through the centuries, btw.

Or he was talking to illiterate uneducated people trying to convey a rather complex idea and had to use those to get them to understand.

Define scientist. Modern science is a totally different animal.

religon yes. faith no. my faith should be evident by my works, and today's message made me realize just how weak my faith seems. i do believe, and i feel called to help others. Jesus said whatever we do to the "least of these" we are doing to him. so if i feel the need to put extra bling on me and extra clothes on my own back and forget my brother, then i don't care for the needy. the fracture in the church remains that most people are all talk and little action.

Put it this way, whoever wrote the Bible was an extremely smart person, he touched on every aspect of life, except of course how "God" got here. And he said that you just have to trust and have faith which is also smart...

My theory...
You know how there are some individuals that are just gifted like none other? Like writing a a Constitution and the D.O.I, 250 some odd years ago and it still functions today...
There was a group of men way back when during the "Bible times", and they decided to start their own book so they were all the most intellectual men and the wrote different chapters each. Maybe there was a Jesus, and maybe he was just a fake like he was accused of being, and he claimed he was God, these people wrote about it.

Well yeah, but it's much more than that. It's comfort. It's hope. Life was really (and is for a lot of people) really really shitty. You need something to make you hope for something better or reality will crush you. It's more than just trying to answer a question, it goes much deeper than that.

The most educated people in the sciences at that time. Like today, just a long time ago. I'm basically saying, man is arrogant to think that we've got it all figured out. The cosmos and life in general is more advanced and complex than we will ever understand. Hell, we'd have cancer solved if we were so damn smart by now.

FWIW, I attended church today. Healing Place for all the BR people. Yes Doc, it was really weird. Less weird than Catholics though. Once you are raised and educated the Catholic way, nothing seems that crazy.

Back to the point, the philosophy Jesus pushed for the most part is awesome. I'm a fan of that Jesus guy. I just don't think he was God.

We don't claim we do. There'd be no point in having science if we had everything figured out.

The overwhelming majority of the smartest people ever to live have all been atheists.
