I understand that. I was just trying to get you to play. No need to apologize. You said you're an RN, that's way more important than my bullshite game.

quote:

We will obviously agree to disagree but where as you place your faith in something that IMO has not been proven and is still considered a theory

It's a theory like it's a theory that germs get you sick.

quote:

There is scientific evidence to prove that some of the ideas regarding the timeline of creation is possible and not just arbitrarily grabbed out of thin air.

The 6,000 year stuff? No there's not. Now the way things evolved and the way the bible lays out the order of how life happened do somewhat mesh though.

quote:

i understand that i can not prove that God is the creator of all things and I understand that but there is some evidence that lends credability to an earth only 10k or so yrs old .

Dude, there's nothing there to support that. That Ken Hoven guy is an outlier. The evidence supporting a much longer timeframe is so strong, you have to be willfully ignorant to ignore it.

quote:

I just see it as being on equal footing now if you want to teach it as an elective i dont care but if evolution is as sound as you believe then there is no harm with a competing theory.

It's not on equal footing. There isn't a single peer reviewed study/experiment/paper that is supportive of ID. It's because it's not science A, but B the claims of ID have scientific evidence showing otherwise. It's not science. You can't have kids thinking that it is. It's not a theory. It's an evolution of creationism to get rid of all the ludicrous stuff (like young earth) so it seems to be on equal footing. It's not. It's a bastardization of science. Science is about looking for answers to things we don't know. ID provides an easy answer to everything. What I have learn about biology and the natural world is beautiful. It's amazing. I'm not going to sit back and let some "theory" like ID bastardize that.

Read over the information about the Dover case in 2005 where this was brought before the courts.

quote:

i say teach both and rather ID(not God) and let the students make their mind up.

I'd rather not fuel more ignorance. Teaching it side by side suggests they are on equal footing in the scientific community and have equal evidence. The difference in reality would be like Florida playing a team full of 8 year olds.

Call if philosophy and go right ahead. I've got no beef with that.

first time to click this thread. and without reading anything except the 1st page, i'm just going to say how impressed i am that there is 13 pages worth of debate over a matter that's literally impossible to prove. leave it to the SECrant. we're practically foaming at the mouth for kickoff. the classy-ness of fans making it to 13 pages. woah. especially when started by a nobody barner.

i guess it is that time of year though. the time of year where everyone stops being civil and respectful. it's that wonderful time of year where hate is felt from September 5th until after NSD.

gotta love it. Roll Tide.

(oh, and btw, it's definitely LSU fans. their recent success has turned a huge, huge pile of students into "LSU fans" ... and their youth shows during games.)

and again, i mean no disrespect to those of you that actually are true LSU fans. nothing but love/hate for ya. nothin but hate/hate for the bandwagon droves y'all have though.

I've been debating The Theory of Evolution for like four pages. The fan stuff ended a long time ago.

Believing that isn't any different than someone choosing to believe in creationism. Saying that it's too hard to understand simply relies on having faith in someone saying something is true.

No it's not though. One is the "best we have" and one is believing something in the face of a mountain of evidence for the other side.

The "best we have" is still nothing than a made up hypothesis. There is nothing to even remotely lend credence that the vast make up of matter in the universe existed together in subatomic form. That's just as "made up" as anything else to give credence to the beginning of anything.

Why are you holding on to the Big Bang so much? It's apples to oranges.

horribly pucilaneous human logic. God was. Always was. IS and will be. Why does he have to come from somewhere? because your brain is constrained to believe everything has a beginning and an end?

God does not.

Doesn't explain anything. God has to be something people can't fully understand for the idea to even exist.

Basically, I'm saying this a theist cop-out.

Not really. You are always intent to disprove the existence of a possibility of a Creator of everything. Yet believing in something like the big bang is no different. There is absolutely no way to believe that is possible without having faith in something that someone made up. There is no difference in what you're doing than others in believing what they do.

That's your judgement call to make.

He saying that you can't teach that bullshite in school and not be looked on as backwoods.
I went to a private-religious based school that taught evolution and not ID. ID isn't science, it's superstition.

and for me to even say "God was, is and always will be" is also a logic constrained to the limit of time.

God stands outside of the construct we see and know as time. we are in 3d. there are a lot more dimensions than 3.

Guys, for us to debate why God is or isn't is real... it's just silly by now.

can anyone fill me in on WHO HERE seems to be in on a rational debate where they contribute AND listen?

I don't. I've actually started drifting towards the idea of a creator recently.

I don't know enough about the Big Bang to believe it. I just said it was the best theory we've got. Not that it's iron-clad.

Sure there is, I've got evidence that isn't totally comprised of anecdotal evidence and a book written 2000 years ago. You know, the actual kind of evidence.
