ETA thats why I dont like listening to M12 talk shite about his parents
A lot of stuff factors into my opinion of them, not just they were hard on us as kids, or the other typical things teenagers complain about. If you knew all of the stuff I know I'm sure you would have the same opinion and that should explain me getting irritated when people are talking about my sister since she pretty much adopted me

I haven't had a grandparent since I was in 8th grade. Only met one of them.
Awkwardly worded.

I hated my parents when I was 16 too. A lot of people do. There is still time for him.
For whatever reason, I never got to that point with my 'rents. Yeah, they did stuff and made decisions I didn't particularly like at the time, but I always resented the specific action, not them. I guess growing up a military brat, the best way for me to cope with all the constant change was to always find a way to get along with and like my family. Grateful for that now--I can (and do) talk to my folks about just about everything.

you are still a kid whether you like to hear that or not... you will understand more as you grow up.

I couldn't imagine that. My grandma hung on long enough to know I got my masters. I was a lucky man in that respect.

Just found out my dad's best friend is in the hospital on a ventilator. My dad has already lost one close friend and his dad in the past four months. I'm not sure he can take to lose another one. I don't know how religious this bunch is, but if you are, please remember to pray he makes a recovery.
Extremely religious--just don't wear it on my sleeve too often on the internet. Your dad's best friend will be in my prayers for sure, sammy
Don't wear it on my sleeve either, but will definitely add my voice for your dad's friend and family, and your's as well

It really is hard to miss something you've never had. It would have been great to have grandparents, but it just wasn't in the cards for me, apparently.
Makes my conversations with the fiance about her crazy grandparents a little tough. She just lost a great grandmother last year. We're 30.

Yeah, my grandfather on my mom's side died before they got to America. I've met his brother(hopefully I can see him again this summer when we go back to Russia) and he was an amazing man from everything I've heard.

I never met either of my grandfathers. Only have one grandmother left to boot. Don't take anything for granted when it comes to family.
Yup. My grandfather on my dad's side (the Sr. for whom I was named, actually--my dad's the Jr.) died when my dad was very young. And my granny, damn, I loved that woman, but she passed a little over 12 years ago. My remaining set of grandparents I'm not that close to cuz my family was usually stationed down south and they live in Michigan.

Y'all better enjoy your family as often as possible. My father unexpectedly died 5 years ago. 55 years old and visibly healthy - very in shape and full of energy.
Pulmonary Embolism killed him in his sleep. I'm just happy he died in his sleep. I hope that's how I go out.
You never heal from the loss of a parent. It'll haunt you till the day you die.
Sometimes I truly feel like he's somewhere in the world on an extended vacation, and perhaps one day I'll be able to call him and ask him to give me painting tips or simply say "Hi Dad."
But of course it's a fantasy to dull the finality of death. Once they're gone, it's forever...unless you believe in the afterlife.
Either way...enjoy all moments with your loved ones and forgive them no matter the situation. Hatred and family conflict is a game the devil plays with us to make death far worse.

I moved from Louisiana after my grandma died to help my grandpa. I owed it to them since they helped raise me. When my grandpa died it messed me up. It still hurts to go to Cemetary. I need to go give them the Christmas flowers still, but delaying it.
