When Alabama got the #1 seed they proceeded to shoot around 35% from the field and less than 20% from 3 for the tournament.
Last year’s UConn team was the first overall #1 to win the championship in I believe 14 years and only the third since they started announcing a #1 overall seed.

The team that went into the tournament with the #1 ranked offensive efficiency, Auburn, scored 78 points last night. In their two previous NCAA games Auburn scored 82 and 83. They have yet to score as many points in a tourney game as they averaged this season. You have won, but there has been something a little off with the offense.
Auburn needs to put up 80+ points a game to win a championship. Against Duke earlier this season they scored 78 and lost. They can beat Houston and Michigan State in a low scoring, ugly basketball game. But if that happens against any of the other remaining teams they likely will lose.

There is only one overall number 1 seed each year. Many feel it is bad luck because so few of the overall #1 seeds have managed to win the championship. You are much better off statistically not being the #1 overall seed. This year Auburn was the #1 overall and they didn’t even make the championship game. Their scoring was down all tournament and they just looked out of sync at times.

While true, in Auburns case they just weren’t nearly as good as that weird fan base hoped. They were below .500 against Florida, Duke, Alabama, and Houston, the other really good teams this year.

Not a jinx, really. Auburn sputtered down the stretch, somehow got the overall #1seed and the home court advantage that came with it, and still looked pedestrian in the tourney. If they had to travel like the gators, they’d have lost much earlier.
