Primarily the Delta region. In that area there is an extraordinarily high level of poverty and unemployment for a variety of historical reasons related to the decline of agriculture, racial history, etc. For a fascinating account of the origins of many of the problems facing the Delta in particular, I recommend the book, Rising Tide, an account of the 1927 flood.

I'm more obsessed with places like Oregon and Washington. Never been and the outdoors out west fascinate me. There is nothing to obsess over in Mississippi. Or anywhere in the south for that matter.

By the way, a study was literally published yesterday showing MS as the third dumbest state. Arkansas was #1, WV #2.
