1) i havent seen Texas players or fans say anything about it, seems more like typical league officials cracking down on taunting.

2) horns down is incredibly lame.
Meh. No worse than other fans doing the Gator Chomp. Is it silly? Maybe, but when a fan base does anything to show their superiority (Both are done to irritate the other team and their fans...kind of like Alabama players used to do the swan thing after they scored) it will be done right back at them when things don't go their way in a game.

3) People complaining about Texas “snowflakes” sound more like snowflakes

How do you do down X when it becomes X-NIL school?

Mack Brown brought it up back in the day, but it was after a Texas receiver was flagged for "holstering a gun" after a catch/touchdown against Tech. He didn't do it AT anyone but it was a flag, Mack went into the press conference and asked why one taunt was a flag and another wasn't.
To add to this...
After that happened... Other Big XII coaches instructed their players not to do "Horns down" due to the fact that they were risking a penalty. And Texas coaches told their players not to do the "horns up" during the game for fear of getting called for taunting.
As a result, one of the funnest things about a game against Texas was taken out of the game. I actually missed it. I guy like Sam Ehlinger would have been perfect for aggravating opposing fans by flashing the horns... and Baker Mayfield would have been even a better villain if he could have given the "horns down" after pegging the Texas defense with another TD pass.

A better understanding of both historical and present-day facts may shed some light on your question.
First of all, let us clear up the fact that UT or U.T. is not an official way to abbreviate The University of Texas at Austin (which is the full, correct name of the school). Notice that the teasips themselves concede that UT is not recognized nationally.
LINK
However, UT is, and for a good while has been, the popular stylization for that school over in Austin, so it can get under some folks' skin to hear Aggies use t.u., or perhaps make us look silly to those not in the know.
Let me pause here to mention that, in universities, things change over time. The Longhorns were once more widely known as Varsity, we were known as the Farmers, t.u. once wore maroon and orange uniforms and had a dog for a mascot (who they buried with great ceremony, so never let a sip give you grief over Miss Rev), while we had different yells (ever heard of Lizzie?) and grey wool cadet uniforms. We went three years without an A&M - t.u. rivalry before, and it seems we will do it once again.
I don't claim to be an expert on teasip history, but I have seen enough A&M history to see that the sips, once upon a time, called themselves Texas University. As an example, here is the program for the 1916 football game, which was played in Austin (and prompted the 13-0 branding of their Longhorn to remind them of the previous year's score). Unless customs were much different, I would assume the home team printed the programs. I have also seen old pennants bearing the name Texas U.
LINK
I will assume that references by Aggies to t.u. are less about the mixing up of the letters and more about the lack of capitalization. I don't have a web link for this, but the Longhorns (previous name of Aggieland yearbook) from the early part of the century refer to Texas University in a formal, not derogatory manner. The above program and other memorabilia also have the names reversed. This is somewhat akin to an Ol' Army Ag saying he went to AMC where we might say TAMU.
Based on this evidence, and the factf that t.u. is A university IN Texas, not THE university OF Texas, it's really the capitalization issue we have here. t.u. changed the name they called themselves - we didn't change what we call them. It would be like a sip trying to insult us by calling us Farmers or stylizing our name as amc. The difference is that we know and respect our own history to a much higher degree, and even refer to ourselves as Farmers or AMC in our yells.
Like I said, with a little historical perspective, it's just a matter of lack of capitalization of a non-official abbreviation.

This is for everyone who has posted in favor of Horns Down in this thread. I am giving you one chance to formally apologize. If you don't, your username will be emailed to Greg Sankey. Govern yourself accordingly.

Got it.
Flashing the horns down as taunting in someone’s face will be treated the same as flashing the horns in someone’s face as taunting….

The video in the article with the director of officiating basically says it will only be a penalty if it is done in a Texas player's face to taunt him. Basically same as the Gator Chomp, etc.
So......exacty the same as it was in the BIG XII.
You can get a flag for doing any hand gesture in somebody's face.

Standing over someone and doing it I see can be a penalty.
But just doing it in general won't be
In the SEC, they will see a lot of it. Don't you worry

I saw Josh Jacobs give a helpless Ole Miss player the Landshark sign after he scored a TD. 15-yard penalty and worse, a very uncomfortable conversation with Coach.

The rest of us UT fans and the players have been getting the horns down in our faces since birth, who cares.
Yes, nothing new. I’ve walked the fairgrounds after a loss and it seemed like every Sooner fan I passed by had the horns down ready for me. No harm. It’s part of the fun of our rivalry. Hey, if others want to join in and use it also, we don’t care. I’m glad we’re recognized.

I am basing my comments on what I have seen on this board. I have not been around Texas fans when not on this board.

Fair enough, I promise you what you see on this board does not reflect reality when it comes to the subject with their fans
Some will shed tears, some will act like they wanna fight, but then back down, others will yell and scream angry words at you if you do the horns down anywhere near them at an athletic event
This is why Oklahoma fans, TCU fans, Baylor fans, Iowa State fans, and Kansas fans have had so much fun torturing them over the last decade
