Was it a contact injury, or a non contact injury? Bc if it’s non contact, I’d blame turf.

Not all turf fields are bad.

Yeah thats a big loss in my opinion.
How do our players keep getting hurt in camp? They gotta figure something out.

Im just saying, it better not be turf related bc you guys claimed football was moving to grass by now.

The practice fields are grass.

He was never a potential tackle starter … change your subject line . In fact he wouldn’t of started at any OL position.

Still hurts to lose depth when you consider how much longer the seasons are now if you make the playoffs.

We’ll defer to Sooner fan who knows more about Texas’ depth chart than anyone

My least favorite part of Fall Camp, season ending injuries.

And my least favorite position for it to happen. Staying healthy is more than half the battle.

I mean he is second string listed on the depth chart. The news outlets say he was competing hard for a starting spot.

Let them practice in a foam pit if it was turf

Both are true. Brandon Baker has been slated to be the starter, and got the most 1st team reps in the spring and the fall camp.

But the coaches publicly identified right tackle as the primary position where there's a competition brewing. It's hard to know if they're saying that to light a fire under Baker. That's certainly something all coaches, including Kirby Smart, will do at times. Or was it a legitimate competition where Baker was in danger of losing the starting spot to Cojoe?

It's not that important of a distinction, IMO. He's still a big loss on a young unit. The tackle position in particular is not as deep as interior OL, and there aren't that many candidates to move over. Texas will be fine after this loss, but it makes the margin for error in the future exceedingly slim. This won't be the last injury on the offensive line this season, unless there's a miracle. Hopefully any other injuries are the sort that are more short term rather than lost for the season types like this one.

As a Texas fan I'm intrigued by former Georgia high schooler Nick Brooks. He's been earning raves since the spring after enrolling early. He moved back in the depth chart after an offseason incident, but this could make him the new backup. There's a couple of other players who now have their chance to shine, so we'll see what happens.

Personally, I thought they'd go to the portal for an offensive lineman this offseason, but they chose to stand pat. I wonder if the staff is regretting that about now.

Yes, but counterpoint. This isn't touch football. You can't prepare for game time contact on either offense or defense if you're not doing contact in practice, too.

Injuries are part of the game. It sucks, but the physical violence is also part of the appeal of the sport, as fans and participants. I don't think there's any chance a team can compete at the top of the sport without having a tough mentality, and part of that tough mentality is crashing into one another in practice.

That said, they weren't even wearing pads in this instance. It wsn't some kind of full on go at each other with everything you've got sort of practice. He had a brace on. His knee got rolled up on by a teammate. Sh*t happens, and yeah, when it does it for sure sucks.

Quite often, it is because one player falls over another during a drill. In some ways, a little more risky than in live game scenarios where everyone is moving at the same speed.

In drills, it is common for players to stop moving after a whistle, but others are still charging through. Or, they are already just standing there watching and get hit by incidental contact.

Smart conjecture. These camp injurys got me so worried i want to put red helmets on running backs, now offensive lineman hurt, im thinking down play the whole camp for everyone somehow. No contact camp except very light contact at the very end right before week 1 maybe. Do you get your arse kicked in week 1 if you do something like that?
