How will an Auburn win, or loss, tell me anything about Barnes?

I'm still perplexed at how he wasn't able to get out of the first round with a transcendental talent like Durant.

I am too, considering that he beat New Mexico State in the first round that year and lost to a USC team with Taj Gibson and Nick Young on it in the 2nd round.

Texas basketball outside of early 90s sucked arse for the last 40years before Barnes got there and raised the expectation level. Before he got to Tennessee he never finished below 7th the conference in 23 years as a head coach other than 1 year at Providence.

They messed up by hiring a one hit wonder.

Yep and has been overrated ever since. At least he was smart enough to wait for the most ridiculous offer right before the iron started to cool.

80’s were ruff.. 30’s to current Texas has been good for 2-3 conf championships or ranked/contenders consistently.

UT just never has been the alpha.. good but never great, hence why they pulled a “Richt” with Barnes.

I’d expect the same moving forward, just not gonna get a lotta luv in that sport

Where are all these chokes?

1999: Lost in 1st Round as 7 seed (1 game worse than expected outcome)
2000: Lost in Round of 32 as 5 seed (Played to seed)
2001: Lost in 1st Round as 6 seed (1 game worse than expected outcome)
2002: Lost in Sweet 16 as 6 seed (1 game better than expected outcome)
2003: Lost in Final Four as 1 seed (Played to seed)
2004: Lost in Sweet 16 as 3 seed (Played to seed)
2005: Lost in 1st Round as 8 seed (1 game worse than expected outcome)
2006: Lost in Elite 8 as 2 seed (Played to seed)
2007: Lost in Round of 32 as 4 seed (1 game worse than seed)
2008: Lost in Elite 8 as 2 seed (Played to seed)
2009: Lost in Round of 32 as 7 seed (Played to seed)
2010: Lost in 1st Round as 8 seed (1 game worse than expected outcome)
2011: Lost in Round of 32 as 4 seed (1 game worse than expected outcome)
2012: Lost in 1st Round as 11 seed (Played to seed)
2014: Lost in Round of 32 as 7 seed (Played to seed)
2015: Lost in 1st Round as 11 seed (Played to seed)

Played to his seed or better in 10 of the 16 seasons and no real flameouts from high seeds.

He got to the second weekend or better every time he was a top 3 seed and only had one first round loss as a 7 seed or higher.

Barnes wore out his welcome. Change can be good. Mark gottfried looked good at Nc state as well.
