It’s a hypothetical to illustrate the flaws of using game-time rankings

Your logic sucks and you suck.

How’s it feel to be so wrong?

No we weren't. We had talent each year and more talent than many of the teams we lost to but we were far from loaded.

We had one top 5 class under Butch and it was squandered. Even so, one class doesn't make a loaded team. Only in an outside conference would we have been considered loaded.

A good percentage of those losses are accounted for by Alabama alone.

Just sayin'.

07 #5 LSU L (SEC title game)
08 #4 UF L
08 #10 UGA L
08 #2 Bama L
09 #1 UF L
09 #1 Bama L (Rocky Block)
10 #7 Oregon L
10 #10 UF L
10 #8 Bama L
11 #1 LSU L
11 #2 Bama L
11 #9 SCar L
11 #8 Arky L
12 #5 UGA L
12 #1 Bama L
13 #2 Oregon L
13 #6 UGA L
13 #1 Bama L
13 #10 Mizzou L
13 #9 Auburn L

14 #3 Ole Miss L
14 #4 Bama L
15 #8 Bama L
16 #8 A&M L
16 #1 Bama L

18 #2 UGA L

20 #3 UGA L
20 #2 Bama L
20 #6 UF L
20 #5 A&M L
21 #4 Bama L
21 #1 UGA L

Again though, ignoring final rankings is dumb. A few of these teams didn't even finish ranked.

OK but again the end-of-year results aren't much better:

quote:

If we stick to final AP v top 10, the Vols are 1-32

So game-time ranking seems somewhat representative.

A much better way to make fun of Tennessee is to bring up how they went 1-9 against UF teams coached by Muschamp, McElwain, and Mullen.

There's so many ways to make fun of Tennessee that it's always possible to find a better way to make fun of them.

It often comes effortlessly and naturally too.

How may 5 to 7 win teams would you expect to beat a top ranked team, especially considering 11 of those teams since 2010 have been named BAMA? The vast majority of the rest were also SEC teams and/or playoff teams.

Vols need to schedule like UK and many others. Just say 'frick it' and feast on easy wins.

End of year rankings are much more indicative of an opponents overall position in CFB than a game time ranking, especially when UT played the majority of these games (UT, UF, and UGA) before the end of October.

I think the reason they are representative is because UT has been so bad that we’ve just lost to everyone. I would be interested to look at a another SEC team that has had a little more success against top 10 teams to see if the respective rankings are as representative. I’m not putting in the work though lol

I guess. For example, we're 9-19 against top 10 teams since Tebow left using rankings at the time of the game. 7-23 using final rankings though. So it's not a HUGE difference but still.

Here's the past 10 seasons using final rankings from both polls.

Bama 17-10
Arky 1-22
Aub 6-28
UF 7-18
UGA 9-15
UK 1-15
LSU 10-15
Moo St 0-22
Mizzou 1-18
Rebs 1-18
SCar 7-14
Vols 1-26

There was a time a few years ago when there were more (number wise) serious posters who were fun to talk legit ball with but I feel like every season things degrade a little more. There's always been the trolling and shitposting and it's always outnumbered serious discussion by a lot but I think at some point a lot of us kinda gave in and more than a few I don't see around anymore

quote:

I mean you're not too far off but there are favorites here. We have a 1000 alts who belong to other fanbases who in turn blame us for their bad behavior. While only about 5 legit active posters

quote:

95% (being generous) of the content on this board is shitposting and trolling, so yeah. There are 2, maybe 3, non troll threads on the front page at any given time.

I have been thinking about this more and more.

This website is degrading in quality just like most media. I find myself to be a less thoughtful person the more I think and read the content here.

It feels like not just wasting time but degrading my character when I spend more time reading and posting here.

I'm sure that could be taken as if I meant it as if I were some paragon. But that's not the issue. I think it is a more general problem that seems to affect everyone participating in this type of media.

I certainly notice my friends and family are happier and more productive the less time they spend watching or consuming modern media. I seem to be way too slow to correct my own participation problem.

I wish they would update the site format, it's full retard that you don't get a notification when someone replies to your post on a message board in 2022. We love making fun of Clemson's homer board looking like 1998 but the Rant isn't that much better.

Social media had great intentions and had a golden age but it has morphed into an almost universal negative for everyone who participates. Ain’t no good
