Most watched team in the nation too with the highest rating on Battle at Bristol (ABC) and 4 straight CBS games.

Through six games, the midway point of the college football regular season, more people have witnessed a Tennessee game in person than any other school in the nation.

The school announced this week that, so far, 659,875 people have attended a Volunteers football game this season.

For perspective, that total is more than the entire current population of Wyoming (586,107) and Vermont (626,042), according to a United States Census Bureau estimate in July 2015.

In fact, by the end of November, the Volunteers will likely leave the million mark far behind. They play six more games during the regular season, including four at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville with its official capacity of 102,455.

The other two games are at South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium (capacity 80,250) and rival Vanderbilt (capacity 40,550).

If including a potential SEC Championship Game appearance at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta (which seats 74,228 for football) and a bowl game, possibly a significant one, and the Vols could be looking at a season attendance total over 1.3 million.

That figure that would surpass state populations like Rhode Island (1,056,298), Montana (1,032,949), Delaware (945,934), South Dakota (858,469), North Dakota (756,927) and Alaska (738,432), while approaching Maine (1,329,328) and New Hampshire (1,330,608).

Tennessee’s attendance total is boosted by the NCAA-record crowd of 156,990 that showed up at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Sept. 10 “Battle at Bristol” game against Virginia Tech, which the Volunteers won 45-24.

I guess you've got to take your victories where you can get them. Hope this meaningless fact consoles you when the Tide rolls this weekend.

Nice...but it doesn't get you any extra points. It'll still be Tenn 0 Bama 0 at kickoff. Good luck.

So what you are saying is that Michigan, Penn State, and Texas A&M have had less home games.

I've watched at least parts of all of UT's games this season. And rooted against them every second I watched, as I always do. Only Auburn joins Tennessee in that distinction.

1. Finds something that should be posted on the Tennessee board
2. Posts a link to an external source
3. Occasionally the link is accompanied by a sentence or two
