Seeing on Tennessee On3 boards and some Twitter smoke that Heupel could be on his way out possibly? Seems like a long shot, but I’m curious if Tennessee realistically thinks something like that could happen? As a reasonable LSU fan, I think Tennessee and LSU probably pretty similar and would be maybe a lateral move. I do think he would do well here though.
Thoughts?
My take the smoke signal is Jimmy Sexton getting that out there, without it ever being traced back as now you have LSU, Florida and Auburn open. So Sexton sees if he can get Heupel a raise, he has gotten TENN back playing well and is 2-2 vs. Bama (their top rival).
Lane is also getting paid if he stays at Ole Miss and now Sexton has 3 schools to leverage more for Lane from Ole Miss (which is where I think he stays).
Coaching searchers are Jimmy Sexton's world.

There's been some weird "winks and nods" in reference to questions about Heupel.
Very odd, I see it as basically a lateral move.

I disagree with you about that. Both Baker and Heupel were former assistants at Mizzou.

Why do you think it isn't a lateral move?

Didn't Heupel beat LSU last time at BR? Plus, Heupel was an assistant at Mizzou. Baker was also an assistant at Mizzou. Many LSU fans really wanted Baker as their DC and why not have Heupel has your HC that can run the offense. That would be deadly at LSU in my opinion.

None of that means anything

It may be but I don't know that LSU can give Heupel drastically more resources than he gets at Tennessee.
Unless I'm just overestimating what they have.

Louisiana ranks 1st in NFL players per capita. Tenn is 15th to 20th.
The amount of NFL superstars LSU has dwarfs Tenn. It may even outnumber Bama, UGA, and Ohio St.
I don’t see them being equal. LSU would be a better job despite Tenn has done better the last 2-3 years.

Recruiting. Despite the state of TN being bigger than Louisiana population wise, I wouldn’t be surprised if Louisiana born players outnumber by 2x the amount of NFL players from TN.

I think he would be a great fit at LSU. You guys should get him.

I get that maybe you have only followed college football for maybe 18 months, but Notre Dame's 2012 #1 BCS ranking most certainly wasn't an "invitational." Tell us you don't have a clue how the two teams in that game were chosen, without actually saying that.

They squeaked by a schedule of nobodies and got blown out by the first legit team they played
