Glad to see those two playing again this year. That was probably the biggest casualty of the divison format with East and West in '92,at least in football.
They had some great games with lots of rich history from '56-'91.Big games, big plays, controversy, you name it.Good to see them tee it up this year.

Probably. AU-UT and AU-FL were great yearly rivalries that were lost in the division split. Always fun to play either will all the history, but makes for a tough game too. I remember the 80's when it seemed like UT beat us more than any team in the SEC. I will never forget the "Tony Robinson Air Show" on the cover of SI when AU was preseason number 1 (I think Bo's senior year) and got WAXED in Knoxville. Seemed like we played them well at home but hardly ever won in Knoxville.

Was that the game where it rained so damn hard you could barely see?
As an aside, I hate the renewal of this game. My wife is a UT grad, so it makes life "interesting" on gameday.

I think that was the 1989 game. Leftovers from Hurricane Hugo.
'Course ,there was the 1973 one in Knoxville that UT won 21-0 and the second half was in a downpour. Bill Battle started punting on first down, and it made Shug so mad,he did too.Shug was so fired up,he wouldn't shake Battle's hand after the game.
Then,Auburn turned around in beat them ,21-0 in '74 in the first game 'twixt the two in Auburn.

my favorite game was the 2004 game. AU had jumped to a huge lead at halftime and that made all of those rocky top singing hillbillies to leave early.
Also the game where Ronnie Brown leveled a UT player.....good times.

My memory is probably more warped that yours.

True, but we didn't play LSU on a regular basis and our rivalry is one of the best things going on in the SEC right now.

I always do a double take the way your sig is written. I went all through school with former Auburn All-SEC OL David Jordan.

No, your's might be better. I had to think about it for a minute. I grew up a Tennessee fan and the first thought that came to mind was the 1992 flood game against Florida. Water used to pool in certain areas of UT's artificial turf by that time.

It was 1985. It was a very, very disappointing loss. AU was number 1 in the nation and UT's receivers said they were going to win and they did. Bo was a senior and here is a quote right before the game - (UT talked big, then backed it up).
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Wide receiver Eric Swanson said it softly, simply, sincerely: "I don't think Auburn can stop us." The corpsmen of Tennessee's air game are stunning in their quiet confidence: They do not count merely on giving No. 1-ranked Auburn its first real struggle of the season Saturday. They count on giving Auburn its first defeat.

I grew up a Vanderbilt fan,and was with my parents that day over I-40W in Nashville at the Alabama-Vandy game.I'm not much of a 'box' fan,but that's where we sat and I was so glad because it was a monsoon that day in Nashville.

I-59 and anyone else who knows, who did LSU play on a regular basis besides Bama, ole piss, State, A&M? We started playing Florida consistently in 1953.
I think we have only played Georgia like 21 times and Auburn around 26 before '92. 17 times from '34-'92.
Why were we missing out?

This game could be very interesting with both teams going with hugley revamped offenses. Could be really hi scoring, or it could be an awful turnover fest.

Florida,Kentucky and Tulane.SEC schedules were pretty bastardized until the early 1970's. Starting with '72, we rotated Tennessee,Vanderbilt,Auburn and Georgia every year through 1986,and then the 5-2 format started. In fact, when Georgia Tech and Tulane left the SEC in the 60's,the SEC had 'appointed' conference games. In 1968,LSU only played 4 true SEC games. Hurt us in '69 when we went 4-1 with a loss to Ole Miss, while SEC champ Tennessee was 5-1 with a tidy 38-0 loss to Ole Miss.

Well, there were 10 teams in the SEC, and we used to only play 6 conference games in a season, so after Bama, Ole Miss and Miss State, I suppose we would just kinda take turns playing the other 6 teams?

Yes, it was an unbalanced schedule if I have ever seen one. We played Bama, LSU, Florida, and Ole Miss every year. Meanwhile, Bama and Ole Miss hardly ever played each other. We had "SEC games" against the likes of Texas Tech and TCU in the past as well. This makes no sense whatsoever.
