Tennesse has played 62 games post-Fulmer.

Fulmer's record for his last 62 games was 39-23.
Post-Fulmer coaching record for the last 62 games was 28-34.

Fulmer's SEC record over that same span was 24-16.
Post-Fulmer SEC record was 11-29.

In my opinion, firing Fulmer was a huge mistake by Tennessee.

Wow that is a good analogy.

When I see the boredom/entitlement factor at play at LSU and UGA where fans aren't happy with a coach who just wins, I just shake my head and think 'take heed lest you make the same mistake.'

Off topic but as an LSU fan I understand exactly and hope we don't make the same mistake.

Fulmer's last 6 years he did not win anything. He may have won 24 SEC games, but it got us nowhere.

We had some pretty good talent, but we were not even close to the national title picture for his last 7 years. Apathy had definitely set in.

Outback Bowls are fun if you are on the way up as a program, but if that's your pinnacle in years 10-15 there is a major problem.

Tennessee had clearly been passed by UGA, LSU, Bama, and UF. You don't keep a coach who hasn't won anything of significance in 10 years.

Dooley set us back way further than Kiffin.

He at least greatly exacerbated the problem.

The Saban coaching tree has as many branches as the average Alabama family tree.

Fulmer was too focused on bringing down Alabama. Once he accomplished that, he didn't know what to do. Then Alabama had a resurgence and Fulmer was fired. End of his fat stupid career. Fat frick. He likes donuts. And he is fat. frick him.

But hadn't he played for one like the year before?

That was a fluke. Tennessee managed to make it to Atlanta with exactly one impressive win all season. If not Vanderbilt and Kentucky missing game winning field goals in back to back games, Fulmer would have been fired in 2007. Still two years too late.

It just feels like your program has tanked since he left. Fulmer wasn't winning championships at the end there but I could argue you were way more relevant than you are today.

Our program HAS tanked since he left, but things weren't getting much better while he was around, either.

More than firing Fulmer, I regret how the AD handled things afterward. If he had stayed, there's little doubt that Tennessee would be BETTER than we are now, but as to whether being better would amount to anything more than 7 or 8 win seasons, it's hard to say.

There is no denying some of the sheer incompetence of the administration in handling Fulmer's erstwhile replacements. Kiffin's contract was atrociously managed. Dooley was, well, Dooley.

I still think it was time for a change. That doesn't mean the university hasn't bungled just about everything SINCE that change, but things weren't moving in the right direction.

1. He should've been fired in '05.

2. Firing Fulmer wasn't the mistake. Kiffin bailing after 1 year and hiring Derek Dooley is what fricked everything up.

Perfectly summed up.
