Mullen went 10-3 with Franks as his qb.

And Franks looked improved. but that does not give us insight on why that makes him better than Smart.

Smart went 10-3 with two 5 star qb's and much better overall talent.
Fromm was not a 5*. Fromm and franks were almost ranked identically.

Both teams finished with the exact same record this season.
But one beat the other and played for the conference Championship.

Now ask yourself which team has better talent?

Georgia does.

Buit isn't that because Smart recruited that talent to georgia? I am being genuinely curious about y'alls opinion. What had Mullen done that makes you think he is better than Smart?

I am not trolling. I am not saying Mullen is not good. I just think it odd that so many on here say he is better than Smart, and what they base it on. I think Smart is excellent. I think Mullen is excellent and will do very well at Florida. I think it is a bit early to name one a better coach than the other, though.

They didn't magically get better.

It wasn't magic, but they did get better this year and will probably improve next year. Mullen was a great hire for them whether you care to admit it or not. UGA will have their hands full next year with Notre Dame OOC as well as A&M and Auburn (on the road) from the West. Not to mention UGA had a pretty nice exodus of good players yesterday. Better hope Fromm stays healthy. Y'all are all-in with him now.

What had Mullen done to this point that makes people think he is better than Kirby Smart. not saying you are wrong, but asking why you think this.

What has Smart really done to separate himself from Mullen? And before we start spouting off division titles, remember one guy started at UGA and the other started at Miss State, not exactly an even playing field. Smart is a lights out recruiter, arguably one of the best in the county, but a very valid argument can be made that Mullen is a better coach for what he did in the SEC West at a program like State, not to mention he just went 10-3 with a NY6 Bowl Win in his first year at Florida.

Smart had more talent his first year

Five losses.

Mullen had three. And a harder SOS I believe. Certainly better wins.

So by year one at said schools comparison, Mullen has been better.

Smart recruits better, Mullen is better in game.

You misunderstand. I am not arguing that Smart is better than Mullen. The Florida poster said Mullen was better than Smart. I was just wondering what he based that on.

Would you say that Mullen is a better coach? If so, based on what?

Maybe. The Oline was a hot mess.

At this point...probably.

We know more about Mullen than we do about Smart. But that is why I could not say either is better than the other. GaryGator seemed pretty sure that Mullen was the better coach,
If you are going to go by first year accomplishments to determine which is better, then if Mullen does not win the SEC and play for the National Championship in 2019, does that prove Smart is the better coach?

Again, I don't think you can go by that. My only nit pick was his blanket statement that Mullen was the better coach. I mean, I've seen posts about Mullens record verses top 20 teams being bad.

Tennessee actually has a somewhat favorable schedule next year, with an easier OOC slate than usual and a down-year West team (MSU). I think the VOLS could go from 6-6 to even 8-4 if the OL and DL have a pulse. So, I will say 7-5.
