Who from this years 5-8 will have the bigger melt?

Edit: I know I would melt HARD if they change the parameters to where we would have gotten in.

Man I don't like the prospect of 8 one bit.

I'm for a graduation of sorts; no need to go all in to 8 just yet.

I think a top 5 with a play in between 4 and 5 would be good enough. Most years there are only 5 really good teams and then there is a clear drop off from there.

That would mean potentially 16 games for the winner and runner up counting conf championships. Not a good idea

Even people that can afford it aren't likely to travel to all these games in bowl season so eight teams won't be making the money they think it will. TV wise, yes, but in person and live with boots on the ground, you will start seeing some empty seats with a lot of fans opting to wait on the title game.

If you expand to 8 you would have to get rid of conf champ games or maybe get rid of 1 or 2 non conf games. Would love to see 9 conf games with more meaningful non conf games with less of those but then you get into athletic budgets and tv inventory
It will stay at 4 for awhile.
The window of fitting in more games on students who do have finals to take and adjusting calendars and injury concerns will prevent a larger playoff

The only way we could hope to eliminate inclusion controversy would be to have a contingency based playoff format. For example, 2011 would have been appropriately solved by Alabama playing Oklahoma State for the right to play LSU. This year, a 6 team playoff with Alabama and Oregon receiving byes would have made the most sense.

I know that's never going to happen because of the challenge of leaving the bowl situation completely unsettled until the end of the season, but there is a way, and it's tiresome when people say it's pointless to go to 8 because it won't be "perfect"
