I think aTm will have a really good year mainly because of their schedule. I'd bet money they are undefeated when they come to Auburn in mid-October.

Again, Sumlin was very good by A&M standards. It's not a place that can be compared to Auburn

Aside from the anomaly in 2018, the road team has won every meeting.

very true. You guys were certainly the better team in 2012 and 2016. 2014 was a very strange game.

Sumlin is best viewed through year ear-to-year trajectory. He inherited a squad that Mike Sherman had somehow stacked with multiple first rounders. There were four on the offensive line alone and he backed into a future NFL Hall of Famer in Mike Evans and future Heisman Trophy winner.

He did to his credit assemble a strong staff and recruited well based on that for a whole 18 months. He got a Swagcopter and barber chair in the locker room and we proceeded to use all this talent to steadily get worse.

He somehow managed to run-off two 5 star QBs, one who would go on to win the Heisman and go first overall in the draft and another who displaced Cam Newton and is still in the NFL. He would serve up inexplicable blowouts and incredible meltdowns.

He started getting fat and was rumored to have a booze problem. He brought in terrible re-tread coordinators like Noel Mazzone and the Chief.

So no . . . .hell no!!!! . . . .him and Jimbo ain't on the same trajectory.

Still far below Slocum, whose biggest sin (besides fricking his secretary and getting caught by his wife) was his 3-8 bowl record.

1991: A&M was 9th prior to losing to #5 Florida State 10-2 in the Cotton Bowl, finished #12.

1993: A&M was 7th prior to losing 24-21 to #4 Notre Dame when Leeland McElroy fumbled the hook and ladder on the final play which would have gone for a touchdown, finished 9th.

1997: A&M was 20th prior to losing 29-23 to #6 UCLA. Not saying we would have finished top 5, but it would have been higher than 20th.

1998: A&M was 8th prior to losing 24-14 to #3 Ohio State. Slocum famously punted mid-4th from the Ohio State 35 yard line on 4th and 1 down 10. Finished 11th.

In the A&M/Auburn series, the home team has only won once. (2018) Hence the word anomaly.

Gus (full Auburn career): 4.43 losses per season.

Sumlin (full A&N career): 4.22 losses per season.

Gus without his 12-2 season: 4.83 losses per season.

Sumlin without his 11-2 season: 4.8 losses per season.

I've always wondered how A&M would have done had they kept Sherman going into their first year in the SEC. Obviously, you don't have Manziel doing what he does, but they might have been pretty good. The year before they joined the SEC, A&M went 6-6 which caused Sherman to be fired, but they had big leads in all but one of those losses (OU), and could have easily been 11-1 that year. He left Sumlin with an incredible collection of O-line talent, Manziel and Mike Evans, paving the way for one of the great offensive seasons in SEC history. Also, it seems as though Sherman's more pro-style might have done well, at least in the first half of the decade, in the SEC.

Clemson. Dan LaCamera was AUTOMATIC from within 40 yards and missed a 29 yarder that would have won the game.

That wasn't the primary reason Sherman was fired, although it certainly didn't help.

Sherman publicly criticized the move to the SEC right after the Oklahoma State choke job and refused to do the one thing that Loftin required of him for him to keep his job...relinquish playcalling duties and hire an OC.

A&M has a .653 winning pct since joining the SEC vs .568 in the Big 12. I'd say it's been a good move for them.

Typical. So many of these guys are such control freaks, and have zero desire to change anything they do. It's what got Les fired. He refused to get rid of his fellow Michigan man, Cam Cameron.

That O-line he amassed for 2012 was pretty amazing. Had to be one of the best collections of talent at one position in the SEC over the last decade and was a huge and very overlooked reason as to why Johnny had the success he did.
