So maybe it's just the position. If you have a highly touted QB, the expectation is that the leadership of that position and the experience gained in previous years will be the difference in catapulting what was already a really good team into a team where the hope is for a national championship. Even if a QB has great numbers, if the goal isn't met, it's thought of as a disappointment, even if draft status is about equal.

Meanwhile, defensive players, RB's, etc are able to have blow out years, but it's rarely their performance alone that will be expected to carry the team.

One of the reasons Alabama was preseason #1 in 2010 was their experienced QB and returning offensive starters...even if McElroy wasn't highly touted, he was experienced and had already won a championship. That clearly didn't translate into greater team success.

This myth that Arky was gonna win the title needs to die. They are void of talent. Their oline got pushed around by Vandy and Ole miss. Their defense gave up 450 yards IN A HALF to a 7-6 A&M team.

Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown both did it in 2004. I think it worked out for them. 2 and 5th draft picks.

No way imo.

He fell short of his goal of being a 3x Citrus Bowl mvp though.

You do realize Locker still went top 10? He didnt plummet at all. He actually still should of went earlier. Should of been the #2 QB taken that year behind Cam and ahead of Gabbert/ Ponder. Actually Gabbert/Ponder should of been the 3 and 4 QB taken behind Cam, Locker, and Andy Dalton.
His draft stock did, only the Titans said frick stock, we know this guy will be good.

Practically an entire team turned down guaranteed top 15 draft status to return for another year. Florida returned all guys after winning the national title in basketball. Noah was projected top 2 pick, Horford and Brewer were projected top 15. It all worked out great, winning a second national title and all being picked in top 10 after their second title.
