And then came Trevor Knight and Bell moved to tight end. Completely different scenario now.
OU QB was looking at the ceiling of Jerry World all night in the Cotton Bowl.
Knight was committed to A&M until the Aggies backed off. He had one big game last year.
Stoops wants everyone to think that this is a different scenario but it isn't. OU has been relegated to second tier in Texas recruiting.

And yet, we won the Sugar Bowl last season and are ranked #4 in the country. So how's that working out?

More like third. SEC, Texas, them.
There is a reason they are doing "national" recruiting out in Cali, its the only place their name still amazes.

For recruiting, not so well.
Here is the top 10 so far for 2015 recruiting:
Here is where OU is:
The 2014 preseason rankings won't matter in three years when your team is less talented than Kentucky or Baylor. Live in the moment I guess, OU's future is shite.

I hope we get blown out so the SEC doesn't get 2 teams in the playoff.

It will get ugly I'm afraid

I missed that. Shameful volfan, shameful.

We'll be top 15 come February like we always are. Look at how many we have committed compared to the teams higher on the list. OU is set up to compete for a playoff spot every year in the Big 12. For A&M it will be a struggle to compete with LSU/Bama every year.

Said that with all the hard feelings toward the SEC from Big 12
Why would there be hard feelings? All we did was take 2 schools off their hands so they could upgrade to TCU and WVU. I thought that was the talking point.

OU has two guys committed that have A&M offers.
A&M has 12 guys committed that have OU offers.
OU gets scraps and they need to enjoy the brief spotlight because they will be exposed.

Yay, top 15. I remember having recruiting classes that low in the preSEC days. I think you remember top 10 OU classes in our preSEC days too.

That is if your conference is awarded a playoff spot. There are only four spots and you are in the weakest of the Power 5 conferences.
Without a Big 12 championship game or conference prestige you have to get through the Big 12 undefeated to even get a shot. Oh and unlike an A&M or Bama you have to play every team in the Big 12 and can't luck out and miss some hard team in another division. The Big 12 is stacked for failure in the playoff era, and thanks to the GOR its going to drag OU's program down with it. Enjoy the ride.
We will be fine. Sure we have to compete with LSU and Bama every year, but unlike OU we will have top 5 talent that can make noise nationally if we actually get into the playoffs. Also unlike OU people will still care about us in seasons when we don't go undefeated because our conference is respected and gets us a ton of media exposure.
OU's run as the FSU of the state of Texas is over. In 20 years your program will be where Arkansas is today. David Boren, OSU and Texas fricked OU in the last round of realignment and it will be a long ride down. But don't ask me, there are countless posts on Landthieves about the same topic.
Personally I think it all couldn't happen to a better bunch of crooks than the Sooners...

OU is recruiting the best in its conference. A&M is recruiting third best in their division. The spotlight isn't going anywhere when we will be averaging 10 wins a season as per usual

Not if Charlie has anything to say about it. For 2015 OU is behind WVU and Texas.

Have you followed recruiting before prior to the last couple seasons? It's September. Look where we are at come February

OU decline is inevitable, you are nebraska -10 years.

Ok fine. OU is the next Nebraska. You still remember Nebraska right?

But I thought the SEC made everyone more powerful?
I never said that. It depends on your situation.
For Arky the SEC move cut them off from their traditional talent base. It hurt the national viability of their program.
For A&M the SEC allowed us to sell their brand to Texas talent. The decades old OU pitch of "come play for something bigger" actually makes more sense when you play LSU and Alabama instead of Kansas and ISU.
The reality is that OU's program traditionally has survived on having first or second pick of Texas talent. With the SEC move we took that spot in the pecking order from you, and the only way yall can stay in the top 15 for recruiting is Stoops is selling his brand nationally. If USC comes back, UCLA stays good, and Cali gets more competitive you will feel the squeeze from both directions. All it would take at that point is a bad hire after Stoops and your program would be lost in the desert for decades.

It will be like you say I am sure. Top 15, top 1 or 2 in the Big 12, but not the kind of class that can compete with the national powers in the playoffs.
Sounds a lot like being the bully at the kid's table. Have fun with that.

This is college football, so anything can happen. However, Stoops is awfully tough in Norman and he will absolutely run up the score if the Vols don't stop him.
Beating T. Tech in Lubbock is no small feat either. Anyone who's been there knows there's nothing to do except eat steak and watch football. Now that I think about it, does a guy need anything else?
But I digress...
I'm pulling for our conference brethren, even though I can't stand Bielima. Screw the Bevo 12.
