But per capita, or per participant as you keep arguing (they are the same),

Those two are not the same and RD is correct. If you stop to think about what he is saying and quit doing a knee jerk reaction it makes perfect sense.

I don't think it helps Georgia so much as it hurts Florida, honestly.

Pennsylvania(home state) used to be #1 on that list. Especially Western PA, moreso the Greater Pittsburgh Area, used to pump out NFL players, HOF players, like water.

I live in Georgia now and it's the same here now as it was there then.

Someone please post some per participant numbers or a link. I would be interested to see them. RD posted that per participant rates were a better measure than per capita. But he then posted a link to an article. And the very first sentence in the article said everything was per capita.

I would like to see the stats on the number of high school players per state vs. number of NFL players.

Now break it down by per capita per race. Mississippi has the highest black population in the US, and not coincidentally the highest nfl players per capita.

Per capita, Georgia has a football national championship rate of 0/10,711,000 using 2020 census numbers. It looks better if you look further back.

Using 2010 population numbers, it was 0/9,687,000

In 2000, it was 0/8,186,000

In 1990; it was 1/6,478,000 (Georgia Tech)

In 1980, it was 1/5,463,000 (University of Georgia).

You would think a school in the top 4 states would produce a National Championship

It is. Which is more important? How many people go to a major college out of the number that participates in the sport? Or the number of people that go to a major school out of a large aging population?

By going per participant you get a better idea of talent and coaching. Just think about it and makes way more sense.

You have some states (Florida ofr one) thta will have huge populations of retirees. You are lumping all people in with those that play football?

Per capital for some states are drastically skewed by immigration.

For example Houston and Austin areas have enormous Indian (as in India…. Not Tonto) populations. Lots of Asians, and a big influx of immigrants from all over South America and definitely from Mexico.

This is the fallacy most fall into. Our population is exploding not from retirees but from those that support them. For every retired couple that moves to FL there are literally dozens if not hundreds of young professional, construction workers and service people necessary for that retirement. And these are the families that have kids that play high school sports.
