Based on their performance in the years after that 2003 team I would think that USC had more talent on its roster than the LSU team did.

That's not a smart way to look at it.

What a terrible list.

2005 Texas should be top 3

2004 Auburn should be on there somewhere

The 2005 USC team was better than the 2003 USC team.

2010 Auburn should be on there without a doubt. As a team, not as strong as most on the list.. but in a one game winner take all..

While you may be right that the 2010 AU team would be a tough out in a one game, winner take all situation, this does in fact say Top 10 TEAMS, not Top 10 hardest matchups for an unspecified opponent. You said it yourself, not as strong as most on the list as a team, and it's a team-based ranking.

Pretty good list, though if they were to wait until the season is over #1 will be 2011 Bama/LSU, and #2 will be the other.

I would switch 2009 Alabama and 1999 Florida State and put 2005 Texas much higher but all in all, that's a very good list IMO.

If Alabama won.. that's the only way 2011 Alabama gets on the list.

If LSU wins, they should be no further than #2. #1 most likely.

Unless LSU wins big, they'll still be behind '01 Miami and '04 USC. '01 Miami were annihilating top 25 teams by 60 points that year. '04 USC beat three teams that finished in the top 10 including the epic rout of an Oklahoma team who would have been significantly better than any team in college football this year except for LSU and Alabama. As for '11 Alabama, I don't even think this team is as good as the '09 team. That team was more well-rounded and played far stiffer competition. This year's Alabama team isn't a top 5 team from the BCS era IMO.

Sporting News needs to find another career and get out of the sporting business. It's obvious they know nothing of the BCS. "Wishes it was this way" News?
