South Carolina ties (and then breaks) the record from most Baseball loses in a season.

in now 130 years of Gamecock baseball - there are only 2 seasons that resulted in a record as bad as what 2026 will finish - 1960 & 1961 -
1996 25-28 (13-17 SEC)
2022 27-28 (13-17 SEC)
2025 28-29 (6-24 SEC)
2026 22-34 or 23-33 depending on Winthrop game (7-23 SEC)
those are the only 4 sub.500 seasons for Carolina baseball since Bobby Richardson's first season in 1970 - Paul Manary was HC on opening day for 2 of those 4 seasons - June Raines was in his final season of his highly successful career in 1995 -
for perspective - Carolina was playing in the title game in Omaha while Skip Bertman was still coaching high school baseball in South Florida and Ron Polk was coaching at Georgia Southern - Gamecock baseball has a very long history of winning at a high level
