Let me be clear that I am not making this thread to defend Alabama's case. But come on...

"They have the better resume."
"We have the better resume."
"You didn't play anybody."

These arguments are dumb!

1.) Schedules are sometimes made 10 or more years in advance. So how can you know in 2001, whether a team you play in 2011 is going to still be a powerhouse or fall apart?

Case in point. If LSU or AL had schedule a home/away series in 2004 with USC for 2011, you'd still be thinking you were playing a powerhouse program under Pete Carroll. How did Alabama know when they scheduled Penn State that they would suck this year? You never know.

2.) Strength of conference. I can't imagine how many times I've watched the Big 12 or Pac 12 and said "man those guys are good" only to see them flop in the bowl. Computers can try to judge. Humans can try but it won't work. And you can't really say a team matches up well with another until you see how things turned out after the bowl games are finished.

We assume the Big 12 is good this year. Heard that before. OSU/Ole Miss anyone?

Until the bowl season is over and you see the better match-ups play out, you have no idea what conference/teams are actually strong.

So you think Boise State should play in the National Championship every year?

So how do you want to judge teams with similar records? If resume and SOS don't mean anything, then up till last week it should have been LSU/Houston in the championship. And that's obviously ridiculous.

I think everyone is missing my point. This has nothing to do with scheduling "cupcakes". That's another argument all-together.

Not even in the same neighborhood of being my argument. And no.

Typically scheduling a "name" program is done for SOS. Take Oklahoma/Florida State. No one thinks that when they schedule Florida State, that they're going to be absolute shite. Especially when they come into the season ranked in the top 10.

But...... does that change the fact that by week 6 everyone in the country knew Florida State was shite, and that win didn't look nearly as good as we thought it did at the time? No.

You are in the game, it cannot be justified but it is what it is, GEAUX Tigers.

But can you penalize a team for it? It's not the other team's fault that a program went to shite. They were trying to schedule a great match-up.

Without LSU playing and beating Oregon and WVU so soundly, Alabama doesn't make it on the strength of a loss to LSU. Oregon goes with one loss. So I wouldn't discount LSU's strength of schedule.

Well if s.o.s. doesn't matter, why not put in a divison 1-AA team in? I mean yeah, its not divison 1, but s.o.s. doesn't matter and their is a team that in undefeated down there.

Define penalize. It helps to objectively rate the team. You weren't nearly as shocked when Baylor and Okie Lite beat Oklahoma as you would have been if FSU had won every other game they played by 25 points. It's just another indicator of the tests a team has passed. No more, no less.

OK. I'm not talking about throwing out SOS or scheduling cupcakes and Div AA schools.

I'm talking about there is not way to tell how strong a conference, and therefore a team from that conference, really is until the bowl season unfolds.

Your team is in just because LSU scheduled Oregon and WV and beat them. You're riding our coattails.

Do you think the Pac whatever number it is now's best teams are better than us? I bet you don't. And the main reason for that is because LSU put that penis on Oregon, who went on to win that conference.

Well really, isn't one reason that yall got into the NC is because of s.o.s.
Yall lost to the #1 team, and ok state lost to an unranked team, and because you lost to a better opponent (which is a part of your s.o.s.), yall got in?

Or else if we didn't look at s.o.s., they would have put ok state in because no one would want a rematch.
