Their jayhawk mascot pays tribute to a band of Civil War thieves, murderers and rapists. Their activities were pretty well described in the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales based on the book Gone to Texas by Forrest Carter. I had ancestors that were killed and tortured by the jayhawkers.
kansas could burn to the ground and I'd just get out the marshmallows.
