I have not studied the CFP rules at all. Am I correct that all P4 champions get an automatic bid? If so, does that mean if Duke wins tonight, they are in?

No it's top 5 conf champs. James Madison would get in over Duke.

Has to be 5 conference champions.
ACC is expected to always be one of those 5.
However, it is an absolute sham of a conference, so if Duke wins, it's champion will be ranked lower than the champions of both the AAC and the SBC.

All the talking heads on various radio stations keep throwing around "P4 and G5", like that is a difference maker. Had me thinking there was some kind of guarantee for a conference champ. That being said, JMU and Tulane are going to get murdered in the playoffs and have no business being there when Texas and Alabama are sitting at home on gamenight with there thumbs up their butts.
