Matthieu's a great blitzer, and just a playmaker, but no way is he the best true cover corner. Good player though.
what is crazy is that he is a true cover corner.. i just want him to stay at nickel on 2nd/3rd

Unfortunately, I am most people. Gilmore has all the physical tools, but until he -- and the rest of our DB's -- quit biting on play action, learn to cover man to man, quit giving a 10-yard cushion, and figure out what coverage they're supposed to be in -- he is far from the best
10 yard cushions and zone reads are part of the EJ defense, they just didn't execute. I think Gilmore did outstanding, considering he only let a few get by him the whole season. His VERY few mistakes happened to be big bust plays. I still think he's one of the best in the Conference.

Busted pass plays were a common occurrence when Ellis Johnson was at Alabama. We always had a suspect secondary, but thankfully it never really mattered with the front seven we had at the time.

Yea, but they weren't in 2009. We had the best pass D in the country (literally) that year, then dropped to 100th in the country last year. I think a lot of it had to do with attrition and position changes, and not so much individual development and performance.

The whole LSU secondary is like Jurassic Park.

I thought the responses would've been way worse

Simon, Mo, Mathieu, Loston and Vinson - all at the same time - SCARY!!! And after the spring game, I'm excited to see more of Simon. He looked pretty damn good.

While we're on the subject, it appears that your team misses Ron Cooper more than they thought they would.
I remember a few Cocks fan telling us when we hired him that he was close to getting the boot from Spurrier anyways.
He's done well here.

I don't miss him, honestly, just because I'm satisfied with Ellis Johnson and Lorenzo Ward more than anybody. We just had some personnel issues last year, and it translated to poor play on the field. The talent in our secondary is better than it's ever been, it's just going to be interesting trying to figure out where to put them all.
Don't get me wrong, Coop was a good coach (and a funny guy too). His success at LSU has a lot to do with the talent pool

Any good SEC Passing Team went after Dre last year. His claim to fame was the ARK game inwhich Mallett overthrew an open WR and Dre got the INT. He is good against the run despite his size, but is weak against a good passer.

Not to argue with you, but we had talent in 2008, and we finished 11th in the SEC in passing defense.
We've improved each year he's been here, along with Haley and Chavis of course.

This is true. I guess there could be other reasons for that too, but y'all have definitely improved from 11th place

I'm hoping we square away our personnel issues from last year and get everybody on the same page. i.e. no busted coverages in the SECCG (which will probably be against y'all)
