So which teams go to The Sugar Bowl if LSU/Gumps go to NC?

Is there some back up plan?
Does Notre Dame get to go, instead? (just kidding)

ND goes and breaks out a new uniform and a new helmet. but hey, its only a one time thing.
edit: ND is wearing new helmets to get the players hyped vs. maryland

Isn't there some exception that would allow a 3rd SEC team in?

If UGA (or whoever) beats LSU in SECCG and LSU/ALA still ranked 1 and 2 in BCS final standings, Sugar Bowl has to take UGA and we play AL in championship game

Well yeah, I'm aware of that one - but I thought there was an exception that allowed for the BCS to take a 3rd team from a conference if the NC game takes both the others.

No, because it won't happen.

It's quite unlikely, but IF UGA beats LSU in SEC CG, I don't see how LSU would stay #1.
Remember (the unwritten rule)? You can't play in BCS NC if you don't win your conference.

That's not happening.

That's what I'd like to confirm. I haven't seen anything in writing. Seems like this would royally piss off CapOne and Cotton bowls.
BCS chaos!!!

BCS Rules
So yes, it could happen.
quote:
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.
So yes, it could happen.

so far we've been lucky enough for that unwritten rule nonsense not to be challenged
considering teams play in conference and out of conference... setting up some arbitrary rule where you have to win your conference to be in teh NCG sounds like common sense but turns into simple minded idiocy in some circumstances

2003 Oklahoma being the exception to that rule

Seems like Arkansas could be a 3rd BCS team at 10-2 for an at large pick if they played LSU close. UGA would have 3 losses and USCe possibly only 2 but with a loss to Arky and with closer proximity to Arkansas the Sugar might would take them.
Just think if 3 teams from the west division were in bcs bowls, that would be epic.

Still not getting the answer I'm seeking. Try again:
If LSU (unbeaten) and Gumps (1 loss... to LSU) are ranked 1 and 2, and by consequence of their ranking in the final BCS poll before the BCSNC, they are both participants in said contest, from where does the replacement for the Sugar Bowl come from since no other SEC teams are allowed to participate in a BCS Bowl as a representative of the SEC? If the Sugar Bowl loses an automatic qualifier, do they supercede any of the other bowls and could usurp one of their picks, or do they just have to accept that they get leftovers, which would be like as follows below?
I am going to assume the following:
BCSNC - LSU vs. Gumps (SEC/SEC)
Rose Bowl - Oregon vs. Michigan State (PAC12/B10)
Fiesta Bowl - Stanford vs. Oklahoma (PAC12/B12)
Orange Bowl - Clemson vs. Cincinnati (ACC/BEast)
Sugar Bowl - Boise vs. ? (MW/?)
So, that leaves one representative left available from the Big East, ACC, B10 and B12. Based on current conditions, I'd have to assume that's going to be OSU. It would not be a bad pick, but there would be NO BCS automatic conference champion in the Sugar Bowl unless they somehow were compensated by selecting before another bowl, although I have to assume OSU fans would come to New Orleans in droves if they selected them.

Comprehension isn't your thing, I suppose?
Only two teams from a conference can go to the show. LSU and Gumps = 2

You must have misremembered...

If Bama and LSU are #1 and #2 at the end of the year and we are a top 16 team we can go to the Sugar Bowl...check yo facts

I did... and you are completely inaccurate.

Feel free to read the rules. BCS Rules of Eligibility.
However, to help you along, read this quote from the Rules:
quote:
At-large Eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. An at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:
•A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
•B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.
So, with that clearly spelled out, if LSU is the automatic qualifier as Conference Champion and Alabama is the other SEC school in as an at-large selection, and since it clearly spells out a maximum of two teams from a conference can qualify, then that would leave Arkansas out.
