So, Texas, you wanna join the SEC?

You know, Texas, you’ve got some nerve.

You owned the Big 12 for most of the conference’s existence. Mack Brown led you to two National Championships, two Big 12 Championships, and had every top recruit in the state of Texas wanting to wear burnt orange.

Since helping form the Big 12, you’ve been to 4 BCS bowls, and a New Year’s Six Bowl in 2018. Vince Young, Colt McCoy and D’Onta Foreman were household names from the moment they stepped on the grass at DKR.

There was no debate. You were the best team in the state, and one of the best in the country. And you let it go to your heads.

In 2011, thinking that you could do whatever the heck you wanted to, you formed the Longhorn Network. Lucrative TV dollars, exclusive content, all to line your pockets at the expense of every other team in the conference.

You’ve got some nerve, Texas.

What you didn’t realize was that the so-called peons of the Big 12 had had enough of your antics. Missouri and your “little brother” Texas A&M upped roots for greener pastures. For the SEC.

Upon arrival, Missouri football announced their intent by winning back-to-back SEC East titles. While the Tigers have yet to return to such heights, they have proven that they belong in the conference.

For A&M, life in the SEC started with an upset over Alabama and a Heisman Trophy for Johnny Manziel. The Aggies remodelled Kyle Field into the fourth largest stadium in the nation, hired Jimbo Fisher, and are gunning for a National Championship.

Now, every top recruit in Texas wants to wear maroon.

That was you once, Texas. You’ve got some nerve.

You had it all, you blew it, and now you’re begging for a piece of the SEC pie.

Realizing that a Saturday in Lawrence is nothing like a Saturday in Tuscaloosa, you’ve decided enough is enough. So, you wanna join the SEC.

You watched as A&M grew into a juggernaut, grew bigger than you, all the while refusing to revive the Thanksgiving game between the two of you that was a state tradition.

You hired Tom Herman, who decided to mock Drew Lock at the Texas Bowl in 2017, won you a Sugar Bowl the next year, then let it all slip. Texas was not back.

You watched as your star was eclipsed, your relevance faded, and now you want it back.

You’ve got some nerve thinking you can just walk up and join the party without first paying your dues.

Sure, Texas, join the SEC. We here in the best conference in the nation would love to see how you handle a 104 degree weekend in Gainesville, a noon kickoff in Oxford, or a Homecoming game at Faurot Field.

You think you can beat A&M again? These Aggies are night and day from the ones you played 10 years ago. You can barely hang with Kansas nowadays, think you can beat the New Zou?

You sure as heck can’t handle Alabama or Georgia. And if you think being in the SEC will magically put you at the top of every recruit’s ranking, you would be mistaken.

Recruits don’t tend to like a program that fires the coach every 4 years.

You have some nerve, Texas. You must think you deserve it all.

What’ll happen to your little Longhorn Network? That thing that kicked off this whole mess in the first place. Will it die like your CFP chances did last year when you played TCU? No AD in their right mind would let it live alongside the SEC Network.

Will you at least do us the courtesy of playing the Aggies on Thanksgiving again? Or does the idea of 102,733 fans draped in maroon booing you for four quarters scare you?

Or how about you come to Columbia? We can put the KC vs Texas Barbeque argument to the test. It would be fun. Or does a 30 degree game in November scare you too?

So, Texas, you wanna join the SEC? Be careful what you wish for.
