Tyler Eiffert is their best pass catcher. The only other partial threat they have is TJ Jones
Noticed that too. Eiffert is their TE and leading receiver. I think Bama will be able to plan for this offense pretty well and stop it. I may have been generous saying they could score 17 points.

Yep. Whereas, Bama faced 5.
And Bama still has the #1 Rushing def in the nation.

maybe those backs aren't so great. If none of their teams finished in the top 50 rushing.
Blake bell being the exception but i'm pretty sure he scored on ND. God that was a glorious game, I may hate note dame but OU is my second least favorite school in the country.

Keep talking while you can. That's going to end in early January.
Games aren't played on paper.

ND has given up 9 touchdowns all season on defense, 7 fewer than the next closest teams in Bama and Florida.
I'm not saying they are better than either of those teams but yielding just 2 touchdowns on the ground in 12 games is impressive as hell.

Yea, but you play the Irish with a handicap. You have to score three times before it counts.

I also remember that BCS bowl where a 1-loss Alabama got the distinct pleasure of having their dookie shoots pounded by an undefeated Utah a few years back.

I was surprised to learn the next two leading tacklers were their DB's.
Great observation.
I watched the Notre Dame/Stanford game and I was more impressed with their DB's flying to the ballcarrier more so than anything else on that defense. It jumps out at you how well they are at closing on the running game and making the hit.
Those DB's are extremely disciplined and adjust to the run/pass very quickly. They remind me a lot of Joe Paterno's white defensive backfields who played almost perfect zone coverage. Maybe not the biggest/most athletic guys, but they are very well coached.
It will be hard to beat them deep and they will fly to the ballcarrier. I do think that constantly taking a beating from Lacy and Yeldon will take a toll on them towards the 4th quarter, but they surprised me on film.
Now, Stanford also runs a lot of unbalanced formations and they are good at it, so many times the linebackers are outnumbered which allows the RB to get to the next level. But for the hype ND's front seven seems to be getting those DB's sure were making the tackle most of the time and they were bringing it as well.
How is McCarron at reading zone coverage? Does Bama's receivers find holes and sit down in zone coverage well? They will have to for the passing game to get going. That two-high safety zone doesn't really allow receivers to utilize their speed and athleticism to get open and it puts pressure on the qb to make perfect reads. There's a reason Te'o has 7 picks.

There is. The ball magically falls into his hands. I'm being serious. The guy never gets blocked and half the time his interceptions are tipped right into his hands while the other half the QB hits him in the chest.

Scoring offenses - Left.. ND competition.. Right.. Bama comp.
Okie 12th -------- Texas A&M 3rd
USC 37th --------- Georgia 18th
Miami 43rd ------- Tennessee 23rd
Mich 57th -------- Ole Miss 49th
Purdue 58th ------ Lsu 55th
BYU 65th --------- Miss St 55th
Stanford 69th ---- Michigan 57th
Pitt 72nd -------- W. Ky 67th
Navy 82nd -------- Mizzou 81st
Mich St 107th ---- Arky 89th
BC 109th --------- Fla Atl 105th
Wake F 114th ----- Auburn 112th
------------------ FCS
Bama played better offenses. Granted, 2 rushing TD's allowed is impressive. So is 4 shutouts in a season. .4 ppg separates the two teams in scoring defense, and Bama played an extra game. ND's offense is exponentially lower scoring than Bama's. I think Bama will be a decided favorite and should win by 2 TD's or more.

He's very well coached in zone coverage and is very instinctive. He anticipates where receivers are going to be and then reacts to the ball. You've got to be a little lucky but you also have to be in the right place.
McCarron is going to be under some pressure to pick apart a very good zone if the running game struggles early.

Agree. The DB's are going to have to make tackles like in the Ga game. I think by the 2nd half, they're going to be beat up by Lacy/Yeldon. ND's D, seems to have alot of TFL on the Dline, so I expect some good pressure. But for a secondary to be leading in tackles so much, they whiff alot too.

Several of the interceptions, he wasn't in the right place. He was in the wrong place, but the throw was just that bad. Getting a ball tipped at the line of scrimmage into your hands isn't being instinctive. It's called luck.
1.) That's a big "if" on the running game struggling.
2.) That's not what Bama should do. If it's struggles early, you keep pounding. That's how you wear a team down.

ND gave up 15 fewer points than Alabama in 1 less game.
ND has actually given up 10 TD and 18 FG this year.
Alabama gave up 18 TD and 5 FG.
So Alabama has given up 23 scoring chances and ND has given up 28.
