I would say that the only finalist this year that has the "stats" to win it would be Gerhardt. However, how many Heisman winners have been playing on four loss teams lately? If you just want to hand it to the guy with the best stats, give it to Troy's QB or some small school running back who has rushed for insane numbers. One stat that does favor Ingram though is that he is averaging over 6 yards a carry, close to two yards more than Gerhardt. Is it a down year for the Heisman? Sure it is. But fortunately for all players involved, they don't have to be better or as good as all the previous Heisman winners. Fortunately, they just have to be one of the better players this year. Its a ridiculous argument to say that Ingram or any other finalist doesn't have the numbers past winners did, it's irrelevant.

How's that?
He is the best player on the #1 team in the nation. Even your hatred for BAMA cannot cloud that.
His stats came against the best defenses in the land. Sure his stats aren't mind boggling like Gerhardt, but his competition was a helluva lot tougher.
He scored 18 TD's against the best the SEC could throw at him. Not enough? Reggie Bush scored 18 the year he won it. Not comparing the 2 just sayin.

Stats doesn't mean everything. He carried his team when GMac was struggling. A lot of his yardage came after contact. If he wasn't good enough, he wouldn't be in the running.
And some people say he's not the best on the team. At the time he was the best and he put points up when Bama needed a win. How many TD's did he score against Florida, the #1 team in the nation, during a championship game? He scored 3. He also had a 69 yard run against the gators.
If he's not the best and Richardson is, maybe Bama will be in the running next year with Trent. Would be sweet to have back to back heisman awards.

Personally, I don't believe this for one second.
TR could be the best some day, but not now.
We saw what happened when MI was down against AU, it resulted in a very close game, even when TR ran well. This tells me his worth to the team.

Ingrams average is 6.19 ypc, Gerhart averages 5.58. That's nowhere near a difference of 2 yards.
Gerhart has the stats (26 rushing TDs), won the Doak Walker (best running back), and lead Stanford to their first winning record in like 10+ years or something ridiculous like that.

What? It was a close game because Ingram sucked it up, not because Trent was in.

The Doak Walker has nothing to do with the Heisman. And I don't know where you are getting his stats from, but last I saw he was under 5 yards a carry. And Gerhardt led Stanford to a winning record. That's great. Ingram led Alabama to an undefeated season and its first SEC title in 10 years, as well as a shot at its first national title in 17.

Did you even watch the game?
Au had the right gameplan, STOP BAMA's best player. They succeeded, it resulted in a close game. My point proven, thanks.

Ingram may not even be the best RB in the SEC. Anthony Dixon has a similar body of work playing for Miss St.
Ingram is a very good RB but the fact that he is in the running for the heisman.. is a bit of a farce. It's alot like when GMac was in the discussion too -- a joke.

In a losing effort. It's easy to pile up stats when you are playing the ENTIRE game, trying to make a comeback.

It's nothing like that, why? the media says so. Not someone with crimson-colored glasses. Or in your case, yellow & purple ones.

It's also easy to pile up stats as a RB when you're trying to run the clock out. 2 points cancel each other out, I believe.
What's not impressive is a RB with barely above average stats being seriously considered for the heisman.

His stats are above average. One of the many players in Ingrams 'league' below
Ryan Williams (FRESHMEN, Virginia Tech)
12 games played
268 attempts, 1,538 yards. 5.74 ypc.
19 TDs

ORLY? Even when every one in the stadium knows whats coming? Also, Ingram was on the bench in blowout efforts. So there goes that theory.

Again, bmy, the media disagrees with you & the rest of the bama haters.

Eli won a lot of awards but no heisman. He's no Jason White.

#5 in total yards
#37 in average

Heisman baby

Wow, 3 in the top 15?
Better than I actually thought.
I see you conveniently left out yards after contact,
Make it 4.
