None of you know anything about how fricked up Louisiana's constitution is, and how it limits the way state government can move funds around to balance the budget. Sure, the easy thing to do is blame Jindal, but his hands, and everyone else's, are tied. Health care and higher education are the only things that can be cut without changing laws and passing amendments to the Louisiana constitution.

Meaning that bankruptcy is inevitable?

Because he's using scare tactics to get more money from the state. Only about 12% of the total budget is from state funding...none of which goes to the athletic department....who actually gives millions back to the school each year.

ok... and you think its actually a good law to say that you can only cut money from education and health care?
why in the world do y'all have such an asinine law to begin with?
BTW, I said nothing about the LSU athletic dept so chill w/that stupid noise.

I'm just pointing out that they're not in dire straights like the commie who wrote the article wants everyone to believe. Calm down, Cleetus

Bottom line, if Jindal could privatize State schools, that's what he would do. All this funding mess will only lead to higher cost for the paying students. LSUS, LSUE, and LSUA will be affected before LSUBR is. I understand most in this thread are trolling, but it's a political move to make Jindal wake up and change something.

What about THE University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns?

When you have a budget shortfall for virtually every year Jindal's been in office and things have already been cut to the bone while lawmakers have pecked away at things every fiscal year something is very wrong.
Louisiana is either paying for lots BS items, projects, and 'jobs' at inflated prices (typical way to pay your political donors back) or it needs to raise taxes. Saying you're fiscally responsible is great and all but money for vital state services doesn't come from nowhere, it comes from various taxes and federal funding. We can assume that Jindal is taking every federal dollar except for Medicaid (I believe he's against the HCA exchanges unless that's changed) so that leaves state revenues and revenues shouldn't be a problem this many years running UNLESS you're patently refusing to raise taxes so you can claim to be fiscally responsible (which is ironic because part of being responsible is making sure there's enough revenue to pay for state services even if it pisses off your supporters).

Exactly. The only way it hurts football is optics.

Meaning you don't understand what I'm talking about. Did you even read the article that was linked? Supporting one political party or another has nothing to do with how fricked up the Louisiana constitution is. Sure, if it makes you feel better, blame it on politics. The problems will still be there after Jindal is gone.

They haven't. Its just that in Louisiana, the only things we are allowed to cut are healthcare and public education funds.
The problems Louisiana has with its budget process were set in place before Jindal became Governer. You should read up on Louisiana and its constitution so you know what you are talking about.

I don't think the state's flagship university has anything to worry about. They don't mismanage funds like morons.
