If it's not against the rules, I'd be pissed that he wasn't doing it. Who want's a coach that won't attempt to give his team every advantage that's within the rules?

The NCAA likes to limit the amount of coaches so that the big schools don't have a competitive advantage over the small schools. But, yeah, I don't have much a problem with Saban's actions here. If he's within the rules then I'd just say he's being creative, which is something that is necessary in today's college football world. Especially in the SEC.
It does seem a little silly, though, to talk about the need to cultivate black coaches while trying to bring on a white coach who got his previous job through nepotism. But in general, I don't have much a problem with what he's trying to do.

It just shows Saban will bend any rule he can to win at any cost.
That's what I loved/miss about him.
Never doubted he got his teams prepared...when it counted at least. CapOne bowl and a few others not so much.

I don't see a problem with this, he will be in Grad School. Working professional go back to school all the time.

Tennessee did this too, former Minnesota and Syracuse OC Mitch Browning, 52 is a GA at Tennessee. He is a big reason Sesntrel Henderson is interested in Tennessee.

I see no problem either. Enough hate already Tex...it just isn't healthy.

Are you trying to imply it's not healthy to hate Bama?

Why would the NCAA lay down sanctions on major programs (such as USC, Bama, Florida, OSU, LSU, etc.) that make them a lot of $$$$? Very rarely have you seen the NCAA enact sanctions against a university when they are generating a lot of publicity (when the program is performing well). I know they will bring down the hammer every now and then (Auburn), but you've got to believe the NCAA has their own interests at heart.

You guys are just fricking jealous because Saban out-works every other coach in the SEC. They get together and make up new rules so he can't be out recruiting while they want to take a vacation, and he finds a new way around it. In your heart of hearts, in the dark of your bedroom, just before you fall asleep, every .... fricking .... one of you guys wishes you had Saban as the coach of your team (except maybe Florida people). Tough shite.

All of the above. I'm just highlighting the article which centers around Saban's actions. My take is the University Presidents are trying to keep College Football from becoming bigger then what it already is. And then there are coaches like NIck Saban who are pushing the envelop at every opportunity to make College Football like the NFL. Yes, it comes from the pressure to win now or be fired. If the NCAA and college presidents don't push back on the manipulation of rules quickly it can all get out of control very fast.
I would much rather see coaches like Saban be part of the solution then push the envelop the way he is which causes a big divide in the haves and have nots. Everyone can see what he's doing to get around the rules.
Well, you just encourage your boy Les to play by your pie-in-the-sky, altruistic rules and let our Nicky bend them to his best advantage.
That's what Urban does. Stoops does it. Any top coach analyzes the rules and any loopholes in those rules to use to their advantage.

I take Les over Nick 100% of the time. Bama will throw record $$$ at a coach and hope he wins a NC. When VT beats Bama they will be on a 3 game losers streak.

It's what makes the best, the best. You've gotta be aggressive and push the envelope.

Didn't LSU have a contract which guaranteed Nick would be the highest paid coach in CFB by $1? I wouldn't criticize how much anyone pays their coaches if I were you.
Oh, enjoy cheering on VT to beat us so you can live vicariously through other teams' success against Bama!
