Yes. He'd say "let's grab a plate lunch at the meat and three" or "we ate lunch at "so and so"; it's not a bad little meat and three"

So..the meat and three didn't have a name?

Bro. You are taking this nomenclature way to hard. We are three pages deep and just about everyone knows what the thread is about except you and that idiot tea sip.

It's not that big of a deal.

Pretty sure everyone knows the type of restaurant being talked about, they are common in rural areas.

It's calling them a "meat and three" that's not common. Sounds like the kind of shite midwesterns would say to me.

I saw several places which had gone out of business.
One of the best of those was Bob’s and Bonnie’s .On hwy 80 between Browns and Uniontown. Bonnie was my great aunt and made the best chocolate pie in the southeast.

I've been living in the south for over half a century and never once heard that term.

Not that I missed anything, it's just a stupid way to say diner or country kitchen.

Paschals in Atlanta is very good but I'm sure there's a better place in some small town somewhere.

Bluewillow Inn is very good but not sure it qualifies.

Wasn't even the best meat and three in Athens when I was in school there. Peaches was much better.

I have a penchant for mom & pops in the South and heard the term for generations.

What makes me sad is starting in the 1980's the family places started going out of business that used to bring a bowl of the sides and you filled your own plate. I guess buffets and no wait staff was cheaper. Terrible trend tho.

Anybody else here remember when the owner was a dead ringer for Nikita Khrushchev?

This crowd would only care about Khrushchev if he was in the transfer portal.

It's clearly not a common phrase with any real history.

Strawn’s in Shreveport

George’s in Shreveport was also top notch. But it shut down.
