Should offensive players be ejected for initiating targeting?

If the receiver or ball carrier lowers their helmet and causes the helmet to helmet contact with a defensive player, why should they not get the same penalty that a defensive player would get? I'll give you an example. In the Bama/Tennessee game, Tennessee WR Tyler Byrd caught a pass and lowered his head right as Bama Safety Deionte Thompson was coming into make a tackle. Their helmets collided and it drew a targeting call on Thompson. Now, the call end up being reversed. But why does the defensive player Thompson get penalized for going low with his shoulder when Byrd was the one who lowered his head and initiated the helmet to helmet contact? Why shouldn't the offensive player get a penalty and ejection in that situation? Why is it always the defensive player that is at fault?

Absolutely.
The current rule encourages head to head contact this way and increases danger to the players because offensive players will do this to try to get an opposing player ejected, or a free 15 yards. It’s bullshite

When we played Florida, Devin White ran towards the tight end erect. Because lowering his head would have been targeting, the tight end lowered his head and knocked the crap out of him. After that play, I don't blame White for keeping his head kind of low. That rule has just made the game worst. I thought, after seeing that play, offensive players should be called for targeting too.

In theory the rule is supposed to apply to offense and defensive players. However, it is never called on offensive players. The rules sole purpose is not safety but to limit defensive efficiency by removing a starter for a game.

Yep. And they should be called for facemasks when they stiff arm a defenders facemask too. I've seen them stiff arm and grab the facemask probably hundreds of times and a flag is never thrown.
Offensive players can initiate contact the same way defensive players can but for some reason, the powers that be have decided it is much worse if the defensive players do it.

Targeting should only be applied to those "kill shots" that DBs used to put on receivers. I thought that was the intent of the rule in the first place, then they started just throwing targeting calls all over he place. It's bullshite.
