His job: Don't allow Auburn to score as many points as FSU.

Result: He succeeded

it was interesting to hear FSU had 6 out of 9 coaches leave last year with a 12-1 season and bcs ncg run possible. now Pruitt leaves too.

anyways you're right, Auburn knows all about the benefits of bringing in a great coaching wizard that whips good but poorly coached players into shape and installs a system around them.

but the problem is Pruitt is not the HC. will CMR hold them down.

You underestimate how much a NG like Jernigan improves a defense. Georgia had nobody on Jernigan's level that year. UGA also didn't have a playmaker like Joyner in the secondary.

jenkins fits that mold... UGAs 2012 defense was talented enough to be top 10. Jarvis Jones and Rambo were playmakers. Pruitt with that talent would've done well, imo.

i just don't think their current roster is close to that group... will take another recruiting class or two.

actually he failed.

fsu was up with 4 left and he didn't stop Auburn from taking the lead with 1 minute left and in the process put an NFL DL on the sideline sucking wind.

FSU offense then beat Auburns defense.

I agree, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do with what we have. I could be very wrong, but I think we've been wasting a lot of talent. If Pruitt is the "man", then we may see some guys step up next year.

if you wanna argue he stopped our statue of liberty play to end the game, I guess he did the job...

but that's football... if FSU's secondary tackles better, we might win the game... tons of what ifs in a game that ends like that.

The defense is the only area we needed whipping into shape. The offense was great until ACLs started popping all over the field.

AU offense vs Grantham @ UGa, prior to 'Hail Aubie'
83 snaps (57 rush, 26 pass)
493 net yards (323 rush, 170 pass)
5.9 yards per snap
37 points (4 TDs, 4 PATs, 3 FGs)

AU offense vs Pruitt @ FSU
80 snaps (53 rush, 27 pass)
449 net yards (232 rush, 217 pass)
5.6 yards per snap
31 points (4 TDs, 4 PATs, 1 FG)

Make of this what you will. I think Pruitt's a definite improvement over Grantham. Homerun hire? We'll see.

We'll see how they do next year without a 4th year starter at QB. Gurley is a monster but gets injured too much, and I haven't seen much out of any Georgia OL in the last few years.

Yeah, this still worries me. QB should be okay, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Well trying not to anyway. It always seems to sneak up on me just before the first game.

it's the one area that has consistently held UGA back under richt... and will continue to do so. they lack a physical OL, and it usually bites them at least once a year.

their skill position talent next year will be scary.

It's weird too because I know so many big MFers from Georgia.

I know this is a small point in the thread, but this is such a myth. His missed games due to one injury, and it occurred in a way that would have injured anyone. He has not shown to be injury prone.

He's a high school coordinator that leached off Saban to get gifted a crazy talented defense in the ACC.

That's absolutely true - couldn't agree with you more - but then again sometimes that's how it all begins.

We'll know better, one way or the other, this time next year.

No matter what you may think, it is a homerun hire, because he proved in 1 year what Todd Grantham failed to prove in 4. He can actually get results out of defensive talent.

You don't think Grantham, or any monkey, could have taken those FSU players and locked down the ACC this year?

I think Pruitt is a good get for UGA but he definitely has a lot to prove.
