I don't follow UTex but their D is ranked pretty high this year. Gave up lots of pts/yds to TA&M but otherwise were pretty good all year.

While at AU in '07, they held UF to 17 pts and Arky (same team that trounced us/Pelini) to a single late 4th qtr TD. Muschamp is legit as DC without Saban.

I agree with others that the lack of HC'g experience will ground rule him out - they don't want to repeat the Zook mistake.

I think no matter what, a coach will struggle in the SEC if he has zero previous head coaching experience and will make major mistakes his first year and be somewhat overwhelmed at a place like UF

All the more reason to hire Muschamp. With the mass exodus from Florida,(Strong,Gonzales,Meyer,Tebow,Spikes, and others) expectations will have to be lowered. So go ahead and hire inexperience with great promise and let him make his "rookie" mistakes in an obvious rebuilding/restructuring year. If you hire Strong, Mullen, or go after Stoops expectations might be unrealistic.

i don't know but he's still closely tied with mississippi state. he even writes a weekly column for one of the state pay sites. so i don't consider him a serious candidate.
