Since when was having a DB lead the team in tackles a good thing? If a DB is leading the team in tackles, that means QB's are throwing at him a lot and receivers are catching a lot of balls a good DB would have broken up. He's a solid player when you look at his overall game, but his glaring weakness keeps him from being elite.
That's why they gave him defensive player of the year and a Heisman finalist nomination despite being suspended for a game.
(as a sophomore)
Please go on about him not being an elite player.

Did you watch more than 2 LSU games? Dude lived around the line of scrimmage.
At that role he is good. But go 4 wide and force him into coverage and he is a liability.

The NFL is going big Jimmy Graham, Gronk, Megatron TM7's size will keep him off the feild
he could maybe get bigger to play safety but will he lose speed with the extra bulk.
That is not to say I do not think he is elite in college the havoc he creates makes him elite

he had better cover stats than Dre..

but you said him leading the team in tackles was a bad thing when he probably spent 75% of his snaps in that position. So which is it?

Sure. He's not an elite player. He had one great season where he made some awesome plays and had a lot of things go his way. Kind of like Robert Lester having 8 INT's or whatever it was his sophomore year. But that does not make Robert Lester a great player.

was Dre Kirkpatrick an elite player?

Dre is a great ball player and great in run support

Then he is not really a DB then. I will admit you are right about the tackle numbers argument.

i dont want to come down to hard on you... maybe you just havent watched him play enough.. he had a terrible game in the NCG.. but for two years he has been pretty solid in coverage.. to say nothing of his general ball hawking skills on defense..
hes been burnt for sure.. just like every other DB in the history of football

LSU played most of the season with a big lead and ran a 4-2-4-1 D with TM7 playing the monster the 1

No. Tons of raw talent and huge upside though and that is why he will be a top 15 pick. TM7 is as good as he will ever be. If I need a corner to play man all night, I take Dre every time. If I need a nickle that plays everywhere, I take TM7.

That's why he's already projected to be a top 15 pick in the 2013 draft.
The Raiders are in the market for a DB?
Really though, that would be a monumental reach. He doesn't have a position on an NFL defense. He might make a decent 3rd CB, but you don't take a backup/situational player in the 1st round.

He's still awesome. It's just the offseason.

fwiw, Dre was the better cover corner but TM7 was the biggest play making DB every time he walked into a football stadium. I don't think he's a 1st rounder either.

The only mudder phucker crazy enuff to grab TM7 in round one now that al davis is dead is bill belly check who will trade down to take him at pick 30

Brandon Flowers is a 5'9 corner and one of the better ones in the NFL. If not top 5.
It's a crap shoot. Who knows. Many 5'9 corners have entered, very few have excelled.

I'm skeptical about his success at the next level as well.
However, for the purposes of what he brings to a college football team, he is among the elite.
