Yeah and only one of those times we were the better team.
I don't get why people laugh at south Carolina's history and then use it against us in an argument. Like we don't know. It doesn't really mean much.

Kinda like ignoring one of the best DTackles in the past 20 years...
Cause nobody takes it too seriously.
For the record, USC is my favorite East team...

I'm older ... I don't like thugs. I'm set in my ways. He's been put on the list but I managed to make a point in the process. Nick Fairley is an incredible talent, as is Albert Haynesworth - but they are both thug POS.
I guess I'm old school where "All-American" meant not just on the football field, but in life as well. Someone for the kids to look-up to as doing it the right way.
Nothing personal against Auburn in the least, but Fairley was a dirty player. Some of the cheap shots he put on Aaron Murray were inexcusable. He should have been thrown out of the game. He could have permanently crippled Murray. And since you wanna do the youtube thing ... here you go: Nick Fairley

How many personal fouls did Fairley have for being so dirty?

Florida's Ellis Johnson was MVP of the third SEC Championship game and had a productive career with the Colts.

He was the best defensive line and possibly the best defensive player ever in the SEC. It's a toss up between him and D.Thomas.

He was also one of the best DT's in the country his junior and senior years. 106 tackles, 24 for loss, 10 sacks.

THIS for sure. Huge career at LSU, even better in the pros. During his pro career he's consistently been considered a top 5 DT in the NFL.

Updated.
I'm feeling pretty good about the original post though apparently only having omitted and/or forgotten a total of six possibilities for the list.

Although he only started for one year (maybe two?), Marcel Dareus could be in the discussion

This is completely irrelevant and doesn't matter, I know...but Pollack was a DE, not DT.

Does Derrick Thomas count as a DE?

Spears, Hill, lavalais and Kyle Williams in 2003
That 2003 LSU D-Line is probably the best I've seen in person, or maybe the '92 Bama line with Copeland/Curry. I remember going to the Ole Miss/LSU game in 2003 and seeing Lavalais (and probably every other LSU d-lineman) beating Ole Miss rb's to the edge on just about every outside running play, it was unreal how big and fast that entire line was

He didn't say the NFL's greatest lineman... he said the SEC's.

and this is why I read the most of the threads before responding.

SCRooster, that's a good list, and I agree, SEC DL Dominance isn't a new thing at all. I think the issue is that Unite is by "the younger crowd" for "the younger crowd" so their memory only goes back so far.

Hell, UF has one of the dirtiest sumbitches I've ever seen on the college football field in their damn Ring of Honor.

Wilber Marshall was one helluva LB though.
