Never been to the zoo, but Turner Field was on the south end of the city on 75/85.

New York is a sleepy village compared to London, Mexico City, Paris, Berlin , Tokyo…..

You have not been to many (or any) of those cities to say that.

Berlin? Pretty cool town but way smaller and quieter than NYC. Same with Paris.

Tokyo will never be as important as NYC, in business, finance, entertainment, immigration, architecture, history, cultural and ethnic diversity, shopping, dining, or anything like that. NYC is just too good.

DF is big but spread out, more like LA and lack the finance sector that NY has

The only city that comes close on that list is London, which is also sprawling and has like, 3-5 skyscrapers, including a giant pickle.

And London comes close ONLY because of 9/11, my friend. 9/11 took out more office space in NYC than the whole City of Cincinnati. London is not. I have respect for London, I love London, but I will still say NYC is the World's Capital. We have the largest business district in the world, the most Fortune 500 companies in the world, the laargest stock exchange in the world, the largest financial complex in the world, the most major record companies in the world, the most television networks in the world, and much, much more.

New York is #1 with London as 1a (on a good day) only because 9/11 and the multi century head start London had as a city.

I lived just outside New Haven, CT for over 7 year

Quite a few of my high school friends went to college in that area.

Not bad, they had some good pizza and burger places up there. Easy to get to from Grand Central too.

Crime Map

Your map makes my point more succinctly than I ever could. Zoom in on the downtown area and filter by type of crime….there were 2 reported crimes against people in the last 24 hours, 5 property crimes and 9 crimes against society. In a city of 6.5 million people 2 were victims of crime on a VERY busy Friday night….. 9 drunks or homeless people arrested and 5 property crimes. That’s 7 crimes where an innocent person was victimized….out of probably close to 600,000 or more in the area over the last 24 hours. Statistically insignificant. It’s obvious you suffer from irrational fears and will always allow your life to be negatively impacted by them….but you really should refrain from projecting your own insecurities and impugning a major city…it’s unbecoming

I have lived and worked in all of them…including NY and Atlanta. NY is better than Atlanta but is to the others what every city in the south outside of Miami is to Atlanta….all New Yorkers and those who love New York think it is the center of the Universe….and in many respects it is, banking and finance for certain, but is is not culturally superior to any of those named….and anyone outside of New York knows it….

You may be talking about Pepi's Pizza (sp.?) in New Haven.

I don't know why it gets so much attention. I've had better pizza elsewhere.

As to college, you would have Yale or Quinnipiac.

I liked Sally’s more in New Haven

But yeah Pepe’s is the famous one. I think it’s because they put clams on their pizza, and CT has an identity crisis on whether or not they want to be more part of the New York metro area or part of New England/ Boston etc

New Haven is kind of the line,
In my opinion, where it crosses into real Boston/Rhode Island territory north of 95

Pepe’s is okay too but the lines are too long and it’s always full. Kind of a typical overhyped tourist spot.

I also liked the burgers off Yale’s campus at Louie’s.

16 crimes in a specific area in 24 hours is not safe.

6.5 million people do not live downtown, so the hyperbole doesn’t really work.

The average American (regardless of race/age/gender is capable of seeing urban America a fairly violent, crime ridden, and corrupt area. The defining characteristic would likely be a socioeconomic one. The very poor accept it as part of life and very wealthy are able to ignore it as cost of living in the city.

But it’s not unique to Atlanta. Augusta Ga is a great example (assumption from screen name). If you go to downtown Augusta in daylight with nothing going on it’s reasonable safe. If you go at night or during any kind of event you are going to see humanity at its worst unless you are poor enough to believe it’s normal and happens everywhere or have enough money to live sorta downtown but don’t actually participate downtown.

I’ve lived in enough shitholes in my almost 50 years on earth to have no reason to fool with them anymore. Some folks believe urban cities are the peak of human societal development, the rest of us know better.

I remember when Bos/NY was in the MLB playoffs & 1/2 my office was for 1 side & the rest for the other. I was the only person who didn't care for either. ;)

By some folks you would be talking about the 80% of Americans who choose to live in urban areas over rural areas. The other 20% have to go to an urban area to obtain anything more than basic healthcare, get to an airport where flights go anywhere at all, place their money in banks in urban areas and send an inordinate amount of their income to urban areas because they can’t buy anything beyond basic food stuffs locally.

I never claimed there 6.5 million people downtown in the last 24 hours….I posited 600,000. Let’s say it was 100,000. Nine of the 16 crimes were crimes against society…public intoxication, disturbing the peace etc. 5 were property crimes and 2 involved people who victims. Nationwide every American would face a .0078% chance of being a victim of a property crime and .0029% of being a victim of a violent crime on any given day. Folks in downtown Atlanta last night had a .005% chance of being a victim of a property crime and .002% chance of being a victim of a violent crime. The latter were nearly 35% less likely to be victims of property crime and nearly 30% less likely to be victim of a violent crime than the average American not in downtown last night. I get it…we hear all day everyday that crime is rampant and we have to be on guard all the time. It simply isn’t supported by any facts but many of us are convinced the US is a cesspool of crime….it isn’t but irrational fears are strong.

I do live in metro Augusta and downtown Augusta is very safe, especially during any event which are numerous. We attend about one a month downtown and go to shows and concerts multiple times a year. Cops all over the place….never even been panhandled while downtown for an event. Not so downtown on a normal Tuesday afternoon…being panhandled is common then. We have a little golf tournament here every spring….there is NO crime downtown that week….for exactly the same reasons downtown Atlanta is safer during a busy event than it is normally….

I know you’ll never accept it but unless you’re a criminal yourself America is incredibly safe…. Urban areas are statistically safer than rural areas but both are very safe. Many if not most Americans suffer from the same unfounded and irrational fears that you do and it is a shame because it has to occasionally create undue stress and cause you to miss out on some very enjoyable experiences.

Atlanta is 3.5 times bigger than Nashville. It has over 10x as many major corporate headquarters. Atlanta is in a state with one of the 5 most heavily trafficked ports in the country, in addition to the rail capacity and connectivity to Florida, Texas, the Northeast, and the port of Savannah. And it has a 50 year head start on international development….in addition to Hartsfield. In no simulation is Nashville a more consequential city than Atlanta in the 21st century.

For the life of me I can’t imagine why any enamored of Nashville would want it to resemble Atlanta in anyway. It’s a nice town. It is not a city. I am a rare creature in that I am a native Atlantan and preferred Atlanta when it was a nice town and not the city it has become. In another 100 years Birmingham, Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta and the entire east coast of Florida is going to basically be one city…. And Atlanta will still be the driving force. It will be like DC Philly NY and Boston…. Just a huge city. It’ll be terrible

My family moved here from FL when I a kid in 1990. I think getting the Olympics (back when that was a big deal) is what really changed Atlanta the most.

I think Nashville is a fine town.

I like Atlanta…for what it is. I’m a proud Georgian and Atlanta is critical to our state. The criticism it gets is generally for the wrong reasons. It’s the most forested major city in America.

That being said I live in rural West GA on a cattle farm.
