Different athletic departments, HC changes, etc.
So MSU is 23-23 against Kentucky but had to forfeit one of their victories for sanctions (1976) so technically MSU is sub .500 against Kentucky

In the last 5 years, they are 4-1 vs. A&M, hence the need for that timeframe.

No technically if you count the forfeited win we are 24-23. But none of this is relevant. We are playing baseball in june
