The reason the thread goes so long is very few if any Arky posters know or bother to acknowledge that the kid committed a penalty, taunted (without the extra flag for unsportsmanlike), was ejected, acted a fool after being ejected and now suspended by the SEC.
To hear Arky fans tell it there is no penalty for hitting a player prior to him catching a punt, no penalty for lowering your head and using the crown of your helmet on an opposing player etc.
It's just all a big conspiracy and the kid is getting railroaded I am sure he teaches Sunday school, helps little old ladies across the street, volunteers for habitat for humanity and rescues kittens stuck in trees too.
When your players do something stupid, like every fan a of team has happened to their team admit they screwed up and threads like this die a quick death.
Defending the indefensible adds fuel and guarantees added posts, strike that pages of posts.
I don't think that most Hog fans disagree with the call. In addition, as others have said, suspending him for the following game is pretty standard procedure.
However, when people call the kid a thug and allude to him doing it with the intent of trying to hurt or take out the Vandy player, and the media and other fanbases catalyze the entire ordeal then yeah, some of us are going to speak up.
The kid's mind was on one thing - trying to tackle the player and get a fumble. This led him into making a really bad and potentially dangerous decision. He didn't get up to celebrate potentially injuring a player from the other team in front of their fans. He got up initially looking for the fumble and then celebrating what he thought was a great open field tackle.
