The entire 90s set us back, or more to the point, our years as an independent set us way back. When we joined the SEC, we were essentially a C-USA program joining the SEC.
USC's SEC record was 18-45-1 during the 90's. Of course, the two 0-8 seasons in '98 and '99 closed that decade in perfect style, but we were still 18-29-1 prior to them.
Beginning with the 2000 season, USC is 72-72 in conference play.....

It amazes me that LSU has climbed up to fourth after the awful stretch in the 90’s.

What’s amazing is that includes a 10 year period where Alabama was pure garbage.

It wasn't entirely garbage. SEC title + 10 wins in 99, 10 wins in 02, and a top 10 finish in 05.

It also reflects how awesome UF was in the 90’s. Even after a decade of Bama dominance and the roller coaster of Gator football for the last 15 years, UF is still on top.
