1980
This was a good game.
I once spoke to Jim Carlen about that game and about the fatal fumble and he said, "I rode my horse too long ... the kid deserved a better coaching job from me that day."
It's worth watching if you are near a TV at the moment.

Walker should have won the Heisman as a freshman.

True ... but damn, this was a smash mouth football game.
I gotta kick outta seeing 1980 Cocky just a minute ago.
Rogers broke three fingers and a metacarpal bone in his hand in this game. And still finished the season with over 1800 yards.
Actually, Rogers earned every one of his the hard way in this game.
Herschel broke the big one ... he just had so much speed.
This game was just great. I'm having so much fun watching this game right now.

I dunno ... naturally I am going to disagree. But the LB from Pittsburgh finished second.
Walker finished fourth I think.
Love the way they called these old games.

Belue just invented the forward pass.

We had two legit 1000 yard rushers that season in Rogers and Johnny Wright. But Wright was coming off of knee surgery from the year before and he reinjured the knee a couple of weeks after this game while tracking another 1000 yard season. But our RB stable was loaded in '80.
I think Mark Dantonio can be seen as a graduate assistant on the sidelines ... he had graduated in '78 if I remember correctly.
That fricking Scott Woerner (DB and punt returner) for UGA was always one of my favorite players. Kid had balls.

Hugh Green.
Green's teammate was drafted by the Saints. One Rickey Jackson.

"After an exchange of punts, we move on to further action in the second quarter..."

I was there...8th grade and more worried about catching a glimpse under a cheerleaders skirt.

Ara Parseghian is the color man... recognize the voice but ... oh yeah, Keith Jackson is the play-by-play.
Frick this was a smash mouth football game!

Those cheerleaders are now closing in real fast on 60.
