These threads didn’t exist until recently now it’s just made up idiots who’ve never been to Atlanta or want to act like it being in Atlanta is somehow an advantage. There is a reason why the SEC chose Atlanta, there’s also a reason the playoffs chose Atlanta as one of its cities, why the hall of fame is in Atlanta, why the World Cup will be in Atlanta, and why the Olympics were in Atlanta. Atlanta is the capital of the south

And that's a vomit list. I'm not saying those cities are bad, but none have stadiums with the required capacity, and they're all too small to host the SECCG. Memphis and Birmingham are okay, but a championship for a conference as prestigious as the SEC should be in a larger city with a much better venue.

Atlanta IS the capital of the Southeast. It's the closest thing we have to NYC, Chicago, or LA, and it's in the heart of the Southeast. It's not as large as DFW or Houston, but I consider Texas separate from the Southeast (as any rational person should).

Whether people like it or not, ATL is our big city.

It really needs to be just houston or Dallas. Move away from the poor part of the country to places with wealth and disposal income.

Well if this is the 30th time it's been posted, then there's probably some validity for it at least should happen

It's my understand that UGA has won 1 of the last 8 games against Alabama. That win was north of the Mason-Dixon line. Six of the seven losses happened in Athens or Atlanta.

So where is the advantage? It's certainly not showing up in that series.

Plus, apparently no other city in the south has airports, restaurants, or even paved roads.

True statement.

Is Atlanta really that much safer than New Orleans?

Yes.
New Orleans has one of the highest crime rates in the country and is in the 98th percentile in terms of safety1. According to Neighborhood Scout, the crime rate is 54.97 incidents per 1,000 residents, which is much higher than the national average.

How safe is Atlanta, GA?
The metropolitan area's violent crime rate was lower than the national rate in 2019.

Hope this clears that up for you.

Can we just make a separate board for this topic?

Just because OU and Texas are coming in doesn’t mean the SECCG needs to change. Atlanta is tradition and it needs to stay. Houston and New Orleans are a big no. If it did ever rotate, it should be between Atlanta, Nashville, Jacksonville.

I would be fine with rotations between the SEC Softball and Baseball tournaments, men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Dumbass, you said my backup cities are terrible.

No. I did not. Show me where I said that.

You're trying to twist my last comment and say Atlanta is better than those reserve cities, it's gonna stay in Atlanta and neglect what this whole post is about, Nola, Hou, Nashville, and potentially Dallas.

And Atlanta is better than all of those. I didn't twist your words. I simply said that the game was not going to move because Atlanta is the best city to have it in.

It's not for me to provide alternative cities. You are the one wanting to move the game. You provide a better alternative. I've already stated that there are no better alternatives.

Prove me wrong.

quote:

Those 3 cities (and Dallas) imo are much preferred by general SEC folks than Atlanta.

If you believe this, then you have not read your own thread.

quote:

Atlanta doesn't have anything going for it besides sheer size which it still lacks to Houston and Dallas in.
Wrong again. Atlanta has Stone Mountain, The College Football Hall of Fame, great restaurants, lots of hotels, a huge airport and an excellent stadium. It is centrally located to almost every single team that has played in the SECCG since it has existed. (Exceptions to Arkansas and Missouri..both have played twice) In the 30 years the game has been played only two teams not centrally located have played in it.
quote:

It's highly likely the new population center is somewhere around Shreveport I'd bet.

So Shreveport is your solution?
An outdoor stadium?

The closest covered stadium would be Houston, and i have already showed the crime rate is higher. Dallas is not covered, but then you will shift it so far west that it negates your own argument to be centrally located.

Go ahead and give us all of the indoor stadiums available.
New Orleans has one of the highest crime rates in the country.

It's not my fault you brought up a subject that was poorly thought out and has been discussed and rejected 6-7 times a year for the past 3-4 years.

I've heard Nashville is very nice. (I've never been there)
In the past, when this has been discussed many said that airport size is the drawback. I honestly don't know. I live about 20-25 minutes from Mercedes-Benz and have never been to the SECCG. I just have a hard time paying that much money for a 3 hour football game. Yes. I am cheap.

Thanks for being a voice of reason since coming here.

I've never understood this argument. It's currently the 20th busiest airport in the country by number if passengers and easily handles NFL and NHL game traffic simultaneously.

I honestly don't know, Borotiger. I worked at the Atlanta airport for many years, but I am not familiar with the Nashville Airport. Perhaps it stems from where the flights come from? I would imagine a sizeable amount come out of Atlanta, since it is a major hub. (Just a guess, though)

Truthfully, I have heard only good things about Nashville. Does it have an indoor stadium or is it outdoor? I can see the wisdom of an indoor facility in December to stay out of rain or sleet, etc. But Nashville would be the most intriguing option outside of Atlanta. Seems like it would have numerous entertainment options.

The big drawback was stated earlier. Atlanta would be out as an option as I do believe the ACC would scoop it up. If this did happen I can't imagine Atlanta holding a spot open every 3-4 years instead of locking down a consistent date every year with the ACC. And the ACC would be crazy not to lock Atlanta up and get a major venue in the heart of SEC country for recruiting purposes and exposure.

Currently no but a new indoor stadium has been approved for the Titans. That said, I have no issue keeping it in Atlanta.

Actually, I will argue for Atlanta, but honestly, it is probably a knee jerk reaction. I've not been to the game. I just can't see paying that much money for a football game, when I can sit in a comfortable chair, drink iced tea and eat hot wings in comfort while getting a much better view of the action.

that was an Alabama fan. What did you call me? Yet you struggle with who is saying what in this thread?

Hint. Don't call people names until you check and double check to see if you are posting to the correct person that said what you are claiming.

I anxiously await your apology.
