I'm not sure why the SEC can't make officiating a professional part of the business organization. Having guys that work a normal Monday - Friday at a job somewhere then come ref somewhere on Saturday is simply inexcusable considering the money this league brings in hand over fist.
What kind of stuff would these guys be doing during the week? During the week in May?
Even the NFL uses part time officials. Football schedule is just too short for full timers. Only way it would work was if they worked multiple sports.

Is 1 allowed to be an announcer as well? Seems like the person should impartial to all schools in all respects.

One interesting tidbit is that Chris Conway, who is an SEC official, also serves as the public address announcer for Auburn basketball and was the line judge for the Alabama vs. Missouri game.
I don't like it. Probably needs to be fixed. Can't be employed by a school and then call games that could somehow impact that school or its biggest rival.

You would think a LSU fan of all fans would be in favor of eliminating favoritism and gross incompetence of SEC officials. Maybe not though, you guys have been the beneficiaries here recently.

I don't know. Would you rather them be strong in 1 sport or know some about several?

I am. I just enjoy pointing out that the constant narrative about LSU fans being the only ones who complain about officiating is complete and utter horseshite.

I don’t see much complaining in this thread. I just doubt many knew the Auburn basketball PA guy is an SEC official.

Jon Bible and Randy Cristal from Austin were SWC and Big XII baseball umpires before doing Big XII football. If you are familiar with their work, that isn't exactly an endorsement of officials working multiple sports, but I know that there are other officials that do it.
