Never.Lots of teams in the south back then had to take their games to bigger population centers.Gate receipts were almost the sole funding source for the programs.

UF played "home" games in Jacksonville and Tampa.Arkansas played in Little Rock. Both Bama and Auburn played home games in
in Birmingham. Auburn also played UGA in Columbus.

The UGA/UF game is kind of a leftover from that era.

I saw Bama-Miss. State in Jackson in 1977, and it was the second game of a DH. Ole-Miss-LSU played in the day game.

I saw quite a few DH’s over the years.
State-Florida - Ole Miss-Arkansas
Ole Miss-Tennessee - State-Bama
State-Florida - Ole Miss-Southern Miss
Ole Miss-LSU - State-Bama

1973 I saw a college-high school DH. That was very unusual and then only time I ever remember it happening:
Egg Bowl - State-Ole Miss
Capital Bowl - Meridian Wildcats-Jackson Murrah Mustangs. Meridian won 20-0.

There were more than that but that is all I remember off the top of my head.

I had a lot of fun over the years. My Dad had friends that would set up their travel trailers on Friday evening and stay at the Stadium until Sunday morning. It was always a great time of fun and fellowship.

However the time for them has passed. With the campus stadium at State being so nice now and 4 lane highways to Starkvegas, travel to there is much easier nowadays. So I am glad all the games are on campus but I have very fun memories of games and DH’s in Jackson.

I've never heard of this but it sounds fun. I've sat through countless March Madness tournaments from mid day til after midnight and enjoyed every minute. I can imagine it would be similar

The Dock! Was there the night Prince decided to drop by for a intimate performance after his concert at the coliseum

1. That's awesome. That's a legend.

2. I miss The Dock more than going to VMS for anything.

Jackson State packs about 13k of the 62k seats there on average.
Jackson State has a strong fan base for FCS play. When they are winning they easily put 30K there

I was at the one in 1986 when Ole Miss blew a shot at the SEC title by losing to a very bad Tennessee team.

Later that night LSU beat State by a million.

The more SEC football changes the more it stays the same.

I saw several games there growing up. Last game I saw there was an LSU loss to Ole Miss in 92. Fun trip tho.

Will we ever see them again? Teams are trying to play more games on campus now, so it doesn’t seem likely.

Not unless you want to move one of your home games with State or Ole Miss there.
