quote:That may be, but if the bowl committees are smart and want to bring money into their respective towns, the Peach won't take UGA and the PapaJohns won't take Auburn. With such large portions of the fanbases living within driving distance of both bowl games, you will have large portions of fans driving in day of the game, going to the game and then leaving.
Chik-fil-A- UGA
Liberty- Arkansas
Music City- South Carolina
Independence- Kentucky
Papa John's- Auburn
The last 4 are all based on proximity to bowl city
To get the maximum revenue for the area (which is one of the reasons cities want bowl games) you want fans from both schools to come in from out of town, book hotel rooms and eat at restaraunts, things that don't happen when you can get there and back in one day.

Kentucky likely will not be in the Papa John's or Liberty Bowls, because they are both on the January 2nd, which is the same day as the UK vs. Louisville Basketball game.

UGA was in the Chick-fil-A bowl 3 years ago.

I'd actually prefer the Cotton this year

What do they get from the Indy Bowl? A bag of Tostitos and a jar of queso dip?

there is $ limit on what bowls can give to players......Cotton, Cap, Outback are all the same as far as gifts go......

Ole Miss only has 7 eligible wins.

Being that TN beat every SEC East team not named Florida, I would tend to agree.

The bowl goodie bags are allowed to have a value of $500 per player!

Does Arkansas really not have a shot at Dallas? Would the Cotton Bowl take UM back-to-back years?
Posted on 11/29/09 at 11:41 am to JoLeUGA
quote:True, but there really wasn't a reason for them not to be there that year record wise. With so many teams with equal records, I would think bowls would select based on draw, but also on teams that will bring people to spend $$$ in their town.

the cotton bowl doesn't want ole miss again is the problem ... i think the cotton and the outback pull a swap out and the cotton takes UT and the outback takes ole miss ... i am thinking:
cap one -- LSU
outback -- ole miss
cotton -- UT
chick fil a -- georgia
indy bowl -- auburn
music city -- south carolina
papajohn's -- kentucky
liberty -- arky

not at all .. they finished a game behind ole miss and lost to them .. the cotton traditionally gets a crack at the first western division team and the outback the first eastern division after the cap one makes its pick ... this is where i think you see the ole miss/tennessee swap ..

With UGA, Tennessee, and Kentucky all @ 7-5, the first thing the Peach bowl will look at is travel. That right there knocks UGA out of the running. I believe UT is Outback bound, Peach Bowl will take UK, and UGA to Music Shitty.

you really think the cotton takes ole miss two years in a row ?? travel certainly didn't enter the chick fil a's mind last year when they took hometown georgia tech ..
Posted on 11/29/09 at 12:33 pm to TigahRag
That's exactly the reason the Peach bowl will not take UGA this year. GT was in Atlanta last year, they will not take a local team two years in a row.
