No it doesn't. LSU has won it more than any other team and it has never hurt them to win it and has helped them plenty of times in securing a top 8 seed or host spot. LSU has won both the national title and SECT 3 times.
It also trains your team to learn how to win in a tournament format, it being the only time during the season you'll be able to play like that before the games matter in the NCAAT
